vypurr59 Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 This is the Mercury Cyclone that won the Daytona 500. The monday following the event, Ford pulled their sponsorship from the Mercury team. Ford felt that the "b" team should never have beaten their Torino Talladega "a" team
cobraman Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 I love the old "Stock Cars". I really don't care for the Nascar "Butter dish" looking cars. Just my opinion.
bbowser Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Nice job Jeff. Great looking Cyclone. Lee Roy was one of the giants back in the day.

'70 Grande Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Beautiful build Jeff! Is this the Polar Lights kit? Did you build it with the 427 or 429 engine, (looks like the 429 decal is on your hood)? I had always heard that fitting the 429 engine into the engine bay on these Polar Lights kits was next-to-impossible! If that's a 429, how'd you do it? What other issues did you have building this kit? (I'm asking because I'm about to start one myself; the Wood's Bros. Mercury).

Yes this is the Polar Lights kit, and you are correct that the decals say it has the 429, but I decaled the body then found that the 429 did not fit, so it has the 427 in it. If you are going to build this with the 429, you will have to relocate and/or fabricate the shock mount bars, so the 429 will fit. This was one of those "should have tested fit" type cars. But other than that, make sure the front of the car slopes down. Some of these Polar Lights cars had some issues from the cowl forward that the nose was up from the stock position, but some hot water and bending"ever so easily" got the nose of the car down. Thank-you all for the kind words also
