Ken McGuire Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 I will be building a 1940 Ford Coupe 'Hot Rod' and would like a nice engine with good casting detail. Are Ross Gibson engines the best in this regard? I know that R&M Co. of Md. has a wonderful Boss 429 but I'm not sure it will fit in the Ford engine compartment so am looking for alternatives.
Fat Brian Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 What kind of hot rod are you going for? That will dictate what engine you need as much as what fits will, a fifties and sixties rod used different engines than a nineties billet rod.
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 .....and just like in the real world, ANY engine can be put in ANY car. Doing the modifications to make things fit that weren't designed to work together is the definition of hot-rodding.
Guest G Holding Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 A SCOT Blown Ardun headed flattie would be a Vintage look and some real looks to a 40. R&M has the blower and motor, or get the motor from Revells 50 ford pu .Good luck with your steering!

Doing the modifications to make things fit that weren't designed to work together is the definition of hot-rodding. i know a guy that my grandfather was best friends with back when they were in high school that took a old morris miner and crammed a chevy 283 into the engine bay designed for a 4 banger. still has the car to this day and is currently doing so "restoration" to it.
Jantrix Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 If this is the Revell '40, the flathead is really well done. If this is the AMT '40, it comes with a very hard to find nailhead. The nailhead might not be the most detailed or well cast, the coolness factor is there. But the other guys are right, you need to let us know your design plans or we have no idea what to advise.
tubbs Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 if i can fit a 429 in a willys, you can fit one in a 40 ford!!
High octane Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 You could always yank the Olds engine from the new '50 Olds kit and put it in there too.
