martinfan5 Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 I forgot that I needed to get started for Oct's club theme, which is 100 years of Chevys, I had this one already, so figured I better get started, have less then a month . I did one stock, so this one will be more custom, I am using the kits ground effects parts, I am not sure on the wheels, they will be kit wheels, just not sure which set. I am thinking about making a twin turbo set up for this one, also thinking about adding some seats from my wreck Enzo. I have 92% decided on doing this one in blue and here is the ground effects on I am trying something here, with the front engine bay and interior floor one piece, makes painting both more of a pain, so I cut the engine bay lose, now I dont have to worry about masking both
bryan_m Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 cool project, cant wait to see more. cheers bryan
martinfan5 Posted September 21, 2012 Author Posted September 21, 2012 I am going to use the wheels I think Can anyone guess what car they are from? Here is what the blue looks like, still needs the wet coats, but I need to go over it with some 2000 grit
martinfan5 Posted September 22, 2012 Author Posted September 22, 2012 Dan, its Tamiya Brilliant blue TS-44, yep the wheels are Aston Martin lol
mademan Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 looks good, I was thinking of doing one in a similar blue and replicating the Sunoco car. ill be watching this build. Look in the Workbench Saturday topic at 2 Camaros that I am just finishing up.
martinfan5 Posted September 22, 2012 Author Posted September 22, 2012 (edited) I knew it! Mine's Zero-Paints version of Brilliant-Blue! Great minds think alike my friend ;-) Lol! Are you going to lower it? Because those DBS wheels will look small-ish inside those wheel wells if you don't... Believe me ... I was going to use a spare set I had ;-)... Went with some Aoshima 20in instead. Cheers Dan Well I am not sure if my mine is great , I am not to sure if I am going to lower it, I will do a mock up and see how it looks, but that is going to be awhile, I am trying to strip the body , just had bad with paint, I had to fix a small area and I put it on way to thick, I should of stuck Model Master Lacquer, I never have good luck with Tamiya paint, but I like this shade . I need to be pick up another can of paint before I can repaint it, it will be tuesday when I head to LHS so some time next week I should have the body repainted Edited September 22, 2012 by martinfan5
martinfan5 Posted September 23, 2012 Author Posted September 23, 2012 (edited) Hate when that happens!! That's why I alway's decant Tamiya paints. They flow way too thin, out of the can, for my liking.... Try to get it right next time... Lol! ;-) Cheers Dan Going to try, it cost money to screw up everytime, I went thru the entire can pretty much on just this build, I did not use it before hand. I do have an A/B, but I need a better compressor , and I dont like using it really to be honest. I will be when I paint the Aventador I dont think the problem was with the paint, but it could be , I am doing another build with Tamiya paint so I will find out, but I had issues with another build using different paint, same problem, I think the primer is the key here Edited September 23, 2012 by martinfan5
martinfan5 Posted September 24, 2012 Author Posted September 24, 2012 Dan, the lowest setting my compressor goes down to is 40 PSI, I have a regulator but even with that, I can not seem to get it below 35 PSI, its not a hobby compressor I may give it a try
martinfan5 Posted September 28, 2012 Author Posted September 28, 2012 Engine is almost done Started working on the interior and working the chassis
Chris in Berwyn Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 I don't see why with a regulator you can't get the pressure as low as you like. I have a non-hobby compressor, and I will fill the tank at 125 lbs, then dial my regulator down to 12-15 lbs for painting. Is everything hooked up right? BTW, I like your build and color. My life got better when I figured out how to use my A/B. Takes some experimentation, but i have found thinning it a bit thinner than milk and 12-15 lbs works well.

I do have a regulator, but for some reason it wasnt working, but I messed around with it last week, and it seems to be working again, I was able to get the PSI down , have not used it yet, but i do have some paint on the way that I have to use the A/B, so I will see if its better with lower PSI THe only reason why I want to get a hobby compressor is so I can paint late at night, with the one I have now, its to loud to use at night I have a new body on the way from Revell, should be here in a week or so
