george 53 Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Roger, i beleive I still have the issue of Super Stock Magazine where your cars on the cover! GREAT conversion! It looks like ya used the JoHan 69 Roadrunner body. The AMT 68/70 B body chassis is a great fit! Yours came out GREAT! Where'd ya get the decals? Did you print them yourself? GREAT job!
caine440 Posted September 22, 2012 Author Posted September 22, 2012 The decal that I will be using are from decals by Lucas. It is a Johan body, AMT chassis and other bits. The hood and seats are from Harts Parts. Still finding all the motor parts. The bottom photo is of the restored car, I have not found many photos of it in action.
vintagedragfan Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 those look awesome Roger, gotta love da Mopars!
Mister Twister Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Your replicas always turn out great and this one should be killer as well.
Big Daddy Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 With a new born baby in the house this is going to take awhile. Thanks for looking. Hey roger this is on my bench right now but can't figure the color out i have done a few spoon test with the tamiya metalic green the closest, but don't want to use it cause it's metalic and meatalic wasn't used on the origional,, what color did you use if you don't mind me asking
gtx6970 Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 (edited) The color is in fact a fine metallic color. Factory paint code was 97 . I have a can of Testors One Coat Lacquer in Mystic Emerald green , although I've not done a close up match to the OE color chip. I think it looks prety close to the cars original color. And unless I find something better it's what I plan to use. http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/projectbuild/mopp_0204_project_six_pack_caltracs_monoleaf_suspension/ http://www.rkmotorscharlotte.com/sales/inventory/top_sales/1969-1-2-Plymouth-Road-Runner-A12/131232#!/ http://a12mopar.com/yabb/YaBB.pl?num=1231436185 Edited September 25, 2012 by gtx6970

Big Daddy Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Hey bill i just did a spoon test with the mystic emerald green and it doesn't come close, i think i will be using the tamiya met. green
gtx6970 Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Hey bill i just did a spoon test with the mystic emerald green and it doesn't come close, i think i will be using the tamiya met. green which one ? http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=tamiya+metallic+green+&_sacat=0 I have the same car in the build pipeline and am open to color choices I don't have a local place to buy Tamiya paints so I have no opinions on how close it is - or isn't. And any color can be different depending on pc monitors I've seen the subject car in person at the 'post restoration' coming out party a few years back. And it is a real bright metallic green and I am not 100% convinced it's true to the OE 97 paint code color for the 1969 model year. Same deal on the Don Grotheer 1969 A12 Car , the pictures I've seen the color is light blue with orangish stripe accents, yet the aftermkt decals are more red to me
Big Daddy Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 hey bill i used tamiya TS-20 for the test with white and grey primer i'm kinda leaning the way with the white primer but they are both so close
Big Daddy Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 hey bill i used tamiya TS-20 for the test with white and grey primer i'm kinda leaning the way with the white primer but they are both so close the 2 on the left are testors mystic emerald and 2 on right are tamiya TS 20
caine440 Posted September 25, 2012 Author Posted September 25, 2012 What I based it on was Plymouth Rallye Green. That is what I read was the cars real color. I could not find Rallye Green except for $35.00 rattle cans. I do not air brush as of yet. I used a Tamiya green but off the top of my head I am not sure which one. I will look when I get a chance.
gtx6970 Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 (edited) Interesting, this is Mystic Emerald over bare white plastic and it doesn't look like either of your test shots. Maybe it's lighting or maybe it's just my monitor ?????? As the body in person ( although it's close as shown here ) doesn't look exactly like the picture on my PC screen either . I just tried to get better pictures but the body is now decals on it and theres not much of the orignal green left showing thru to show the color very well. . Edited September 25, 2012 by gtx6970
caine440 Posted September 25, 2012 Author Posted September 25, 2012 I agree with Bill the restored car has a metallic look to it. Even all the photos I have of Rallye Green cars vary from car to car. I went with Tamiya TS 35 Park Green to go with the decals. I had to use a dark gray primer, then a white primer to kill the orange plastic. I will have to wait to see how it all works out.
skymnky721 Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Wow,,nice start. This will be good Im sure,,,

Thanks Rog, I just ordered some Tamiya paints , Once it gets here I will do some spray outs then compare them to a buddy of mines 1969 Plymouth color and trim selector catalog. Truck parts Posted September 26, 2012 Posted September 26, 2012 A freind of mine had a new one back in 69. Man that car could run, the green was not a metallic color. Was more like a jade green.
Big Daddy Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Just a small up date. Were did you get the rims from
caine440 Posted October 11, 2012 Author Posted October 11, 2012 The rears are from the old Killer Cuda kit, the fronts are from the Smokey Convoy Chaser Dart. Thanks
