Ramfins59 Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 So I've been working on a curbside custom '53 Ford. After waiting for days for good weather I finally shot some primer on it and all came out great. I got the chassis painted and wheels mounted and checked the stance with the body on and all was well. I started work on the interior... Came back to the bench today and looked through some other parts & stuff that I cleaned up while I was rooting through kits the other day when it was raining... I had cleaned up some lantern style lights from the AMT Tall T double kit and glued some MV clear lenses to one set and red MV lenses to another set for taillights... Suddenly the urge to finish the '53 Ford went POOF...!!! Now I'm hot & heavy into working on a T-Bucket Roadster... I'm combining parts from the AMT 25 T double kit and the interior bucket from the AMT Tall T double kit to make it... This hasn't happened to me it a very long time. Usually once I start a model I stick with it until it's finished... I know a lot of you guys seem to have multiple projects going on most of the time, but this is strange to me... I guess I'll see how long this lasts.

hooterville75 Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Ramfins59 & Slusher, I just did this this past week. I was working on only my second ever kit a Davey Allison Nascar kit, got everything done and kit together. Came time to start the body (which I waited to do till last) put the Primer on. Finished the primer coats, gave some mist coats, I came back to give a fourth mist coat and it was what appeared to me to be worse then Orange peel. I did some sanding work on the body, getting to where I felt was capable of painting it again, and got the same effect. I don't know if I should strip the paint totally and start again (which will probably be what happens), or give up and throw it away. Somethings wrong somewhere but I wanted to avoid the problem for a bit out of anger so I just put it in the box and started a new kit which is a 1957 Chevy Bel Air AMT kit. Being very new to this hobby I'm very cherry so I figured the best way to handle it was to put it away, do some research for what I possibly did wrong and come back after doing some research online.
deja-view Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 I have multiple projects with none of them getting done. Oh, wait. I just put a set of "Rothman's" decals on my Autoart 1/18 Porshe 956 LeMans winner. It was one of those politically correct versions with no "tobacco" advertising so I bought custom decals to correct it. Does that count as "finishing" a model? Other than that, I've been packing models for 2 weeks to move. Now, THAT is boring and a PITA!
espo Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 I used to have the same problem for many years. Would end up having two or three models going at once and never finish any of them, and then see something else I just had to build and shove the others aside. I now force myself to only do one at a time untill I'm done and ready to clean my desk for the next model. For myself it's the only way I can get anything done at all.
Ramfins59 Posted October 7, 2012 Author Posted October 7, 2012 Obviously I know that I'm not the only one that this happens to... It's just that it hasn't happened to me in a looooong time. I usually try to force myself (as you said David) to work on one at a time... Oh well... we'll see what happens as time goes on. Thanks for your input guys.
tubbs Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 this happens to me constantly!!!! i have a rediculous amount of started projects. some needing only a days worth of work to finish. i blame it on the internet and google searches. way too many ideas out there. funny, started a new one last night!

Yup. It's interesting that our greatest source of information and build data is also our greatest time-killing distraction.
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 I've only finished one build since I've been back in this. I've got two more approaching completion, and I MAY have one of them painted and one in primer in time for the upcoming NNL Southern Nats. Part of the problem is another bunch of projects ranging from loose-parts to almost-ready-for-first-primer. I don't know why I'm wired to have so many things going, and I really sorta envy those of you who can stick with one model until it's done.

I'm waiting for Mr. Rooter to show up to hopefully fix the problem without my having to spend an arm and a lung... We'll see how this event turns out... Meanwhile... no modeling in the basement for awhile...
