caapa Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 (edited) The M1 was projected with racing in groupe 5 in mind. According the regulations have been built not less than 400 pc and so would be the BMW M1 the first mass produced mid-engine car. It was not a successful racecar but a normal car, but normal at a higher speed than other cars said Mr Neerpasch the father of the project. It was my first model built from a plastic ESCI - kit. I got it as a gift with glue but there was no modeling store in our neighbourhood. So I painted it with a normal lacquer mixt with some gold metal powder. Edited May 28, 2013 by caapa
Brizio Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Cool I built the same kit decades ago, painted in orange. I still have it.
Modlbldr Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 I had that kit a few years back, but sold it. Now I see I should have built it. That's a cool looking BMW. Later-
sjordan2 Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 One of my favorite supercars. Many years ago in Houston, I passed the BMW dealer's lot where he had four of the street M1s lined up. I drooled all the way home.
simonr Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Wow, it looks great...I remember back in 1994 on music trip to Germany, I saw one of these in white, a Porsche 959 and a Lamborghini Diablo in metalli orange...almost 20 years later..I'm still drooling..hehehe Simón P Rivera Torres
robiwon Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Nice build of a great old kit. On a side note, Lamborghini was supposed to handle the production of the M1 for BMW. But Lamborghini was so strapped at the time they couldn't do it and the deal fell thru.
simonr Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Last year, I built one with the tri color BMW Motorsport livery... Simón P. Rivera Torres
