Using toothpaste

I have read people using toothpaste on models, what are the reason's or what is the use of toothpaste for? I read somewhere about using it before painting.

We used to use it to rub out a paint job, like polishing compound. Also used to use baby powder. With the advent of paint polishes for modellers, this mostly'went away'......

I have found toothpaste to be useful for final polishing of Testors enamels. I tend to shoot them thin to avoid obliterating detail, and in my experience they're kinda soft, so it's easy to go through them pretty fast with conventional automotive compounds (which I use on lacquer jobs, no problem).

Just don't use the paste/gel striped combinations.

However, if your paint color is too dark, you can use the 'whitening' varieties to lighten the color!

I read that, but it was kind of vague , I sent him an email , thats what lead to this starting this thread

I have used tooth paste as a first step when restoring window glass on glue bombs. It even takes small amounts of paint off. I use it as a paste between my fingers then rinse. Works very well.

toothpaste was made in the south,,, if it was made up north it would be called teethpaste,,, HAHA

Toothpaste is nothing more than a very mild abrasive with various adititves to do other things in the mouth. Therefore it is a rubbing compound. I use to use it until I discovered that there are rubbing compounds availble in a variety of grits to serve various purposes. I started using them instead and now have a drawer full of them!
