Bernard Kron Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Stunning! Building in such a large scale and with this level of precision, skill and detail, must come close to "modeling" the experience of building the 1:1. Can't wait for more, more, more...
dpride Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 Thank's all for reply. Ognib, the rat rod is :http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=51823 Bernard Kron, the 1/4 scale stuff is almost like parts of 1:1. The car in my avatar is the last build for street use. I drove it for many years. 454-LS7. Hope to have more work soon so I can "justify" spending on the rest on the materials like fasteners, molding and casting.
bryan_m Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 very cool build! cant wait to see more of it. nice work cheers bryan
dpride Posted September 15, 2013 Author Posted September 15, 2013 I didn't realize it had been so long since I posted in this thread. I have almost finished another car besides this one. The rubber molds I made for the fiat body were intended for a brush on urethane but the material wouldn't play. I ended up using vinyl ester tooling gelcoat and VE resin for the layup. Minimal shrinkage with maximum cost. The body is just placed on atm. It won't be green, that's the gelcoat color.
Dyno Davo Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 So cool, amazing progress and craftsmanship
Mike Kucaba Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 With this build it appears nothing is impossible!! Great work and quite the accomplishment.

dpride Posted February 23, 2014 Author Posted February 23, 2014 It's been a while since I posted updates on this car. I have been building two cars concurrently and will finish both about the time. A shot of the engines. No oil stains yet.
comp1839 Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 really is gorgeous dave. fantastic attention to detail !!!!!!!
pharoah Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Very impressive build! What did you use to make the original body from? Styrene? Thanks!
dpride Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 Dave, thanks. Your rig is progressing nicely too. pharoah, the body was made from styrene profiles and styrene sheet in all the areas I could bend without compound forming. The compound shapes were done with styrene foam and Bondo to blend to the profiles.. Silicone rubber mold and vinyl ester tooling gelcoat and VE laminating resin for the finished body. VE resin are low shrink and didn't warp the thin mold.
