Dr. Cranky Posted November 18, 2012 Author Posted November 18, 2012 With this kit of Rust Effects from AK-INTERACTIVE you get all the rusting you would ever want . . . The fram is coming along . . . in the usual manner . . . The paint goes on thin, great coverage, and the most important part is that it adheres very well . . . which is perfect for the rough and wet salting process.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 18, 2012 Author Posted November 18, 2012 The beast is coming together nicely . . . WILLYS GONE WILD: Lots to do still, lots of airbrushing left . . . The engine is almost done too . . .
bryan_m Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 thats awesome virgil! i gotta try that Ak rusting stuff, when i get a new compressor....looks like it works good. bryan
Dr. Cranky Posted November 18, 2012 Author Posted November 18, 2012 The wheels and all the components on the frame are glued down with two part epoxy for that extra strength hold. This is the first time in a long time I hold off until the end to paint the body . . . One final round of mocking just to make sure everything is going to fit just fine:
Dr. Cranky Posted November 18, 2012 Author Posted November 18, 2012 Here are a few more, but these pictures really get me excited about finishing this one . . . I think the roll bars are way too bright and shiny . . . I'll tone them down soon . . .
bryan_m Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 very cool indeed! i could see this thing slammin through a swamp down there in florida buddy......... bryan
Dr. Cranky Posted November 18, 2012 Author Posted November 18, 2012 I like the exhaust tips looking like fangs . . . I tried to bend up but it was too much work. LOL!
Dr. Cranky Posted November 18, 2012 Author Posted November 18, 2012 Thanks, Bryan . . . yeah, that's the idea, although most of what I've seen down here are these huge big daddy trucks people take muddin'. I'd love to show up in one of these. LOL.
crazyjim Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Hey doc - didn't I read way farther back that this was going to be a SHINY :) build? What's with the dirt and rust? And, I thought that AK stuff was a brush on deal? I was going to order some for chassis weathering but the guy wants a ton of $$$ for shipping.
bryan_m Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 oh yea! those tip look great V....... bryan
Dr. Cranky Posted November 18, 2012 Author Posted November 18, 2012 Hey doc - didn't I read way farther back that this was going to be a SHINY :) build? What's with the dirt and rust? And, I thought that AK stuff was a brush on deal? I was going to order some for chassis weathering but the guy wants a ton of $$$ for shipping. Jim, the body is going to be shiny, with a bit of mud spattered on the rocker panels. It's a build where I want to showcase the different finishes, etc . . . but yes, it's shiny. The AK-INTERACTIVE RUST SET is a dual purpose set. You can brush it on or airbrush it on. I think the best results are gotten via the airbrush. You can get stuff directly from AK-INTERACTIVE-USA.com and this way the cost of shipping is not as much as if you order from EUROPE. Tell Iain Hamilton Doctor Cranky sent you.
gasser59 Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 This is looking awesome DrV. The one thing that comes back to me after studying your progress are the exhaust headers. They'd be thrashed and completed mud covered when done running in the bog. Anyway to run those out the hood? Otherwise its perfect. Looking forward to shiny.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 18, 2012 Author Posted November 18, 2012 Brad, yes, I still have to come in with the airbrush and stipple and spatter the mud all over. I decided not to mess around with the exhaust too much.
Dr. Cranky Posted November 19, 2012 Author Posted November 19, 2012 Thanks, Ira. Tomorrow I shoot the Lime Ice pearl on the body. And this one should be done before THANKSGIVING.
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Man, that's just too much. Really fine. Great imagination you have there.
rmvw guy Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 I keep thinking of "Grave Digger", now that you mention the green paint I'm thinking about it even more. I can't wait to see the painted body!
Dr. Cranky Posted November 20, 2012 Author Posted November 20, 2012 Thanks, everyone. Today is paint day, let's hope this one doesn't end up in the purple pond right away. LOL!
Dr. Cranky Posted November 20, 2012 Author Posted November 20, 2012 Paint is currently drying. I will have pictures very soon.
