MoparWoman Jamie Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 (edited) Hi you all, my wife asked me to build #24 Jeff Gorden's car of the Dupont 1997 car (might be 1994) and I been trying to locate photos of the rear car to use as ref photos for the build, she got me a AMT model of his car and I know how they can be off in detail so she wants me to add the detail to the model. I like to know the engine size and what it looked like, and the same with the interior as well. Any help would be great from you all. Thank you. Here is a photo of the car she wants me to build, just in cas some of you was wondering what car it was. Edited May 8, 2013 by M0par Jim
martinfan5 Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 Well for starters, that is not the right year of body for that paint scheme , the engine size is a 350 small block Chevy , all the engine colors change and very by teams , so there is no one correct way to paint the engine, the block and heads are aluminum color . Chassis is gray, you can use SEM paint # 61113, its dead on for the correct shade. https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=24%20dupont&psj=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.&bpcl=39314241&biw=1024&bih=608&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=Lpa6ULSMIqvNigKz5IHoBA#um=1&hl=en&tbo=d&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=nascar+chevy+engine&oq=nascar+chevy+engine&gs_l=img.3..0i24l2.213231.222186.6.222601.21.15.1.5.5.0.367.2457.0j13j1j1.15.0...0.0...1c.1.w2neaLEQsoQ&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.&fp=ac75ad74b535ac2e&bpcl=39314241&biw=1024&bih=608 https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=24%20dupont&psj=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.&bpcl=39314241&biw=1024&bih=608&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=Lpa6ULSMIqvNigKz5IHoBA#um=1&hl=en&tbo=d&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=1997+24+dupont&oq=1997+24+dupont&gs_l=img.3...17640.17990.2.18368.2.2.0.0.0.0.111.218.0j2.2.0...0.0...1c.1.f07SHyW03v8&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.&fp=ac75ad74b535ac2e&bpcl=39314241&biw=1024&bih=608 https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=24%20dupont&psj=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.&bpcl=39314241&biw=1024&bih=608&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=Lpa6ULSMIqvNigKz5IHoBA#um=1&hl=en&tbo=d&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=1998+24+dupont&oq=1998+24+dupont&gs_l=img.3...28276.29575.0.29889.5.5.0.0.0.0.141.562.1j4.5.0...0.0...1c.1.Yy3Dh8ODMBI&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.&fp=ac75ad74b535ac2e&bpcl=39314241&biw=1024&bih=608
bbowser Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Something about that photo looks doctored, besides the obvious missing Goodyear stencils on the tires.
martinfan5 Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Something about that photo looks doctored, besides the obvious missing Goodyear stencils on the tires. Well there are several reason you might think that , one its what I am pretty sure its a video game image, I am thinking its from NASCAR racing 2003 for the PC, two, the body style is that of the 2006-2007 Monte Carlo with the Dupont Rainbow paint scheme from the 90s

martinfan5 Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 It's a Forza 3-4 screenshot, Ok, Some of the graphics remind me of the PC NASCAR game, thats why that came to mind, and I am Grand Turismo guy
wrecker388 Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 The logo in the left corner is shared between Forza 3 and Forza 4, and yes the graphics look as good as NR2003.
MoparWoman Jamie Posted December 2, 2012 Author Posted December 2, 2012 (edited) I wanted to say "thank you" to those of you that have provided help to me for this project so far. Please keep the advice and helpfulness coming if you don't mind. I know this kit has some incorrect details on it, I have already notice the roll cage back bar is incorrect from all the roll cage photos I have found of nascar cages.. so I will have to build a new one. Also about that photo I posted before well earlier today, it's from Forza 3 or 4 game I guess, but the paint shceme is the same as the one that is on the model car box here. I will alo use this thread to keep you updated on this project too. Edited December 2, 2012 by zerodude

MoparWoman Jamie Posted March 10, 2013 Author Posted March 10, 2013 Okay, I also started working on this project. I'm replacing the roll cage with a better one and made from brass.
MoparWoman Jamie Posted March 10, 2013 Author Posted March 10, 2013 I also found out this roll cage is warped on the driver side bad. Luckly I'm building a new one. LOL
Old Coyote Posted March 13, 2013 Posted March 13, 2013 Here's a picture of the 1997 DuPont Monte Carlo driven by Jeff Gordon ............ hope this helps
MoparWoman Jamie Posted April 10, 2013 Author Posted April 10, 2013 John, thanks also for the photo, it does help out. I been busy with afew projects that is going on. This project is being rebuilt kinda. I decided to take and rebuild the floor pan and cockpit area using brass of different thickness's.
MoparWoman Jamie Posted April 10, 2013 Author Posted April 10, 2013 Hi you all, well progress for this model has been being made. I decided to build a new floor pan/cockpit area out of different thickness of brass's. I still have not got the mirco blow torch working right, so I'm doing what can with the one I built. Plus I'm using different sizes of silver soldier as well. Anyways here is some photos of what I been doing.
MoparWoman Jamie Posted May 7, 2013 Author Posted May 7, 2013 Okay, I'm still having micro blow torch issues here yet but I'm doing what I can though. I got the trans tunnel solder into place and am working on soldering in the floor pans now.
MoparWoman Jamie Posted May 7, 2013 Author Posted May 7, 2013 Here I am making shure everything lines up to the plastic Working at making the shifter unit cover for on the trans tunnel
MoparWoman Jamie Posted May 7, 2013 Author Posted May 7, 2013 Here I started to work and make the real area Okay, after I re-modified the micro blow torch again after it started to act up again. I just have to get the heat readjusted now
