azers Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 I found a neat tool by accident. Bought a nail grooming tool at my local pet store for my dog but still can't get near her with it. Upon closer examination its just a battery powered dremel with a screw on guard with four holes. It has two speeds, low and high. It uses the same attachments as a dremel so i decided to use it in my hobby area since i can not use it on the dog. Its made by oster and cost $25.99. Nice thing is its small compact and cordless. When not in use it can be stood on end. Just thought i would share.
Deathgoblin Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 Got a similar thing from E2046 recently. It's actually marketed there as a battery powered grinding tool and comes with a small assortment of bits. I found that some of the bits from my other Dremel will fit, which REALLY expands it's capabilities. Plus it's slow enough that it can run without a speed control and won't melt the plastic. The one I got was closer to $6 not including shipping, but It's probably a cheap knockoff of the one you got.
azers Posted December 29, 2012 Author Posted December 29, 2012 That's whT i also noticed is that on low speed i can do things without melting the plastic. Which is what my regular dremel on low speed couldn't do.
Danno Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 Dremel also markets its battery-powered motor tool in sporting goods stores as a golf club cleaning tool. You could buy it cheaper there than you could in a hobby store where the same item was marketed as a hobby tool.
azers Posted December 30, 2012 Author Posted December 30, 2012 Should have went there and bought it. Her paws are as big as golf clubs. Lol. Probably would have been cheaper than the pet store for the same thing.
58 Impala Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 I've had that model Dremel for years, it's very good. I bought Dremels newest pistol grip style (very comfortable to use)with a lithium ion battery. I've had it for almost a year and it stays charged for an incredibly long time. I bought it at Lowes.
signguy2108 Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 I've got a small grey rechargeable from dremel. I use it more than my electric one.
JunkPile Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 Would the chuck Dremel makes fit on these cordless models?
azers Posted December 30, 2012 Author Posted December 30, 2012 (edited) I don't know about the others but everything so far fits the oster one i bought. This one i bought uses 4 aa batteries. I just updated it with rechargables because my camera uses the same batteries. Edited December 30, 2012 by azers
Deathgoblin Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 The one I've got doesn't really have a chuck like the normal Dremel. The bits just push in and hold. It's pretty good for low power work, but I wouldn't want to try a cut off wheel or something that requires some torque with it.
azers Posted December 31, 2012 Author Posted December 31, 2012 Mine does everything my electric one does including the chuck which appears to be exactly the same. Every dremel piece i have tried in it has fit including my cut off wheel. It looks like oster commisioned dremel to build their filer they just made it battery powered and put the oster name on it. If interested ill post a picture.
JunkPile Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Please do not confuse "collet" with "chuck". Chuck as is used in drill. Available for dremel, fits all size bits, finger tighten.
