oldcars Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 A few years ago AMT came out with the 71 and 73 Mustang kits at the same time. I wanted the one with the rear window louvers. The box for 73 showed them while the 71 box didn't. I bought the 73. Yep! you guessed it. The kit that showed them didn't and the other kit did. I was just a little P.Oed. No, I didn't buy the other kit. Richard

mk11 Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 (edited) Thanks for the illustration. The old album's around here somewhere. I knew it was a coupe but would have bought the vic if it had the wheels. Got a few coupes in the stash. Marty also ran a Charger in the early 70's, found some decals for that one... mike Edited February 24, 2013 by mk11

roadster Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Here are a couple more misleading offerings from DTR. Note the disclaimer in small print on the side of the boxes.
roadster Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Here's a neat one from Premier or Palmer. Ford Falcon?

wrecker388 Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 (edited) Now I see why everyone was complaining about disclaimers! Edited March 6, 2013 by wrecker388
dustym Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 The Revell Gary Ormsby Dragster comes to mind. They printed 1991 NHRA Top Fuel Champion when he was the 1989 World Champion. Gary passed in 91 from cancer. I still have 4 unopend ones.
Darren B Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 The shaker trike, says 1/25th but actually scales out to 1/12th scale.
Scale-Master Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Here's a neat one from Premier or Palmer. Ford Falcon? It's REALLY customized.
Rob Hall Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 One that I haven't seen in this thread that has been reissued at least twice w/ the same error is the MPC Dodge Dart Sport. MPC reissued it in the '80s labeled as a Plymouth Duster, and AMT did the same about 10 years ago in the RC2 era. Similarly for the MPC '74 Road Runner which MPC issued as a GTX in the '80s and AMT more recently (presumably for the same reason Monogram called their Road Runner a Satellite--to avoid paying for the naming rights).
farmer1 Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 I think this was brought up in the recent Dodge pickup thread but it fits here too ! No 2 wheel drive suspension, tires or wheels, no mention of 2 wheel drive stock version in instructions either. Its also a "100" with 8 bolt wheels ???
Rob Hall Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 Something always seemed off about the 4wd wheels & tires on those kits...I read somewhere that they may have been 1/20th scale parts.

And to top it off, they put the wheels on the wrong axles on the box art!
bandit1 Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Also what about the amt 70' chevelle kits?...on the box they show one built with stripes on the hood right?...but open it up NO DECALS WHAT SO EVER!!!..or is it just me?...(stole pic off mikesdecals.com)...have seen others the same way to??? http://www.mikesdecals.com/images/IMG_1649.jpg
Casey Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 (presumably for the same reason Monogram called their Road Runner a Satellite--to avoid paying for the naming rights). I think it was because MPC held the license from Warner Brothers to use the Road Runner cartoon and name at the same time the Satellite kit was new on the market...1984 or so?

The Monogram Satellite was in the '82-84 range IIRC. No idea if MPC still had the license...they released the '74 RR as a 'GTX' in the mid '80s because I assume they didn't have a license then. SoCalCarCulture Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 Funny that everyone complains but have any of you taken the next step? Remember the kid that complained during a price freeze that Testors raised the price on the bottles of paint? The best thing to do is file a complaint with your local District Attorney, they will then investigate - here's a link to the forms in Orange County and yes it works.
Rob Hall Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 The best thing to do is file a complaint with your local District Attorney, they will then investigate - here's a link to the forms in Orange County and yes it works. That would be silly w/ a model car, wouldn't it?
Rob Hall Posted March 7, 2013 Posted March 7, 2013 One blunder IIRC in the '90s was the instructions of the AMT Ford Ranger mentioned checking w/ your local Chevy dealer for color codes, etc. Or it was vice versa w/ an AMT Chevy S10 kit.
