Dr. Cranky Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 A car is worth what some one is willing to pay for it. I think auctions are the pitting places where collectors gather for some very cool showdowns. The car museum near where I live houses 2 or 3 bat-mobiles which have suddenly now gone up in price.
Rob Hall Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 A local guy bought and said he's going to put it in his living room.
jeffs396 Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Another case of more money than sense! AND more of George Barris' self-promotion...
High octane Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 That's a LOT of moolah. I'm glad I got the kit and built it last year for about $25.
Craig Irwin Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Not bad for a car in dire need of a complete rebuild.
A.R.C. Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Is it me or did Barris come across like a babbling old fool?
JunkPile Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Is it me or did Barris come across like a babbling old fool? No different than any other wealthy rock star
Terry Sumner Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Poor 'ol Barris needed some PoliGrip badly!
Jon Cole Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Poor 'ol Barris needed some PoliGrip badly! I thought I saw... something... happen... then I thought "No. Can't be."
Jon Cole Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Prices of the kit and diecast will be going up accordingly.
High octane Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Prices of the kit and diecast will be going up accordingly. Ya think???
Guest Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Hopefully the new owner will take it and have it restored back to it's original condition as a Futura.
slusher Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 l think Barris sold it while he could. He is 88 so l think he decided to sell. Question is will it go up in value or fall..?
Guest Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Hopefully the new owner will take it and have it restored back to it's original condition as a Futura. I would not want to see that. I would however like to see it restored without some of the labeling. Some of it is in the series, some of it is not. It's far more valuable as a historical artifact as the Batmobile than as the Futura.
DavidChampagne Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 And don't forget..after he pays $4.2 million for the car, he pays another 10% buyers fee. $420,000.00 (if my math is correct).George pays 8% sellers fee..$336,000.00.Don't know if it is true but I think I heard them say that he bought the Futura concept car for $1.00.I wonder what the real "MUNSTER'S COACH" and "DRAGULA"are worth.

I wonder what the real "MUNSTER'S COACH" and "DRAGULA"are worth. Yes, Barris bought the rusted run down Futura for $!, it had been setting unused in his back lot for years. I don't know about the real Munster Coach, but the real Dragula is hanging from the celing of the Hard Rock Cafe on the east coast. (New jersey ? Atlantic City?) And as the Futura this car would have never sold for any where near four million dollars.

Besides that, I think all of us know that the Batmobile is an iconic car. I do hope that someone removes the gewgaws that barris added, like the Barris emblem and the Ford emblem and all the goofy labels that were not on the car in the series.
MachinistMark Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 IF i had the money id get it and re restore it back to the futura, just to screw with barris fans.

Update, it WAS hanging from the celling of the PLANET HOLLYWOOD at Alantic City, which is now closed. It was restored in 2011 and is now at Volo.
Craig Irwin Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 All I could find quickly on the Munster Koach is that Barris sold it at auction in 1982, and had a reproduction built in 84. So if you've seen Barris with the "orignal" Munster Koach tn the last 28 years I've got so bad news for you...........
JunkPile Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 (edited) I'm with Pat on this one when it comes to the cars and the show Edited January 20, 2013 by JunkPile
