Gramps2u Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Eye Popping to say the least! Thanks for the tips Have to check your web site out!
chris_thobe Posted January 21, 2013 Author Posted January 21, 2013 Thanks everyone. I know this type of paint job isn't everyone's taste, but you can take the idea into building 60's and 70's customs, and even take the taping method into doing flames and scallops. Just a thought. But it is fun to do none the less!
b_lever1 Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 checked out that link it is wild models cars bikes and more
scalemodelworld Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 As usual, you guys make me want to throw myself through a window. I thought I was being clever wiring up an engine and building some door hinges. When I see the talent on this forum, I don't know whether to throw my hands in the air and give it all away, or knuckle down and try to replicate what I see. This paintwork is some awe-inspiring stuff. I have to give it a go, but I'll never embarrass myself by posting my results, lol.
chris_thobe Posted January 24, 2013 Author Posted January 24, 2013 Thanks guys. Troy, practice makes perfect!!
chris_thobe Posted January 28, 2013 Author Posted January 28, 2013 Here I got the first coat of clear on my last 3 paint jobs. Next is wet sand/foil/final clear.
chris_thobe Posted January 28, 2013 Author Posted January 28, 2013 Here is my first scallop attempt. I think it turned out pretty good.
vintagedragfan Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Thanks everyone. I know this type of paint job isn't everyone's taste, but you can take the idea into building 60's and 70's customs, and even take the taping method into doing flames and scallops. Just a thought. But it is fun to do none the less! the (type) of paint job doesn't take away from the talent it takes to do it ! I have painted 1-1 cars my whole life, a few flame jobs and such, there is nothing easy about it, but it does take a good eye and patients speaking from years of experience, I have yet to do a custom paint job on a model, I will probably try to do some thing cool on my current project, beautiful work Chris, keep at it bro!!
chris_thobe Posted January 29, 2013 Author Posted January 29, 2013 Thanks alot man! I have peinted several 1:1's too, but nothing like this. Its definitely tedious!
gtx6970 Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Here is my first scallop attempt. I think it turned out pretty good. Thats a huge understatement. WOW , thats the best I can come up with.
LacrosseBoss Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 this is what my paint jobs want to be when they grow up. Absolutely incredible work. Thanks for sharing, and thanks for the tutorials.
Albie D Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Here is my first scallop attempt. I think it turned out pretty good. This came out very nice! Im digging the new Pegasus "Supremes", good fit for the build.
chris_thobe Posted January 30, 2013 Author Posted January 30, 2013 Thanks alot guys. I am happy with it. I got some BMF and clear on it tonight. I am looking foreward to doing some more Larry Watson inspired customs this year.
Austin T Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 What brand of tape are you using? I have cut tamiya and regular blue scotch tape thin like you instructed, but it wrinkles and I'm almost sure paint will bleed through. Your paint work is just gorgeous, hopefully I can get mine half as good as yours.
jbwelda Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 i bow down before you sir. that is incredible work that i can only wish to be a mere shadow of! just incredible! that tangerine looks good enough to eat!
Mooneyzs Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I am really digging that Scallop paint job. Very nice job on it.
