andy1966 Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 My first attempt at something a bit different! A Romany caravan! No plans, no scale, in at the deep end! Just finished base & wheels, all hand carved from pieces of balsa. Long way to go before the grand plan materialises, with realistic, glowing wood burning stove, parrafin lamps, & other furnishings etc. All comments welcome. Cheers. Andy.
Sixties Sam Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Great woodworking job! Are the wheel rims laminated from thin strips of balsa? Sam
Harry P. Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Nice! Are you going to paint or stain or weather it?
andy1966 Posted February 18, 2013 Author Posted February 18, 2013 Great woodworking job! Are the wheel rims laminated from thin strips of balsa? Sam Hi Sam. Yes they are. Very painstakingly by forming thin strips of balsa round a plastic lid from a cigarette lighter gas re-fill can.
andy1966 Posted February 18, 2013 Author Posted February 18, 2013 Nice! Are you going to paint or stain or weather it? Had my orders from wife. Got to paint it. Or else!
sjordan2 Posted March 19, 2013 Posted March 19, 2013 Is the main portion going to be straight-sided or round?

andy1966 Posted April 7, 2013 Author Posted April 7, 2013 Progress so far. Made a start on inside.Just added one working lamp for now, for effect. Roofwork all ready for canvas cover. Next challenge! Then woodburner. All comments welcome. Andy.
Steven2 Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 (edited) Progress looks fine. I love the bench/cabinet. Edited April 8, 2013 by Steven2
sylvia2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 The caravan looks amazing! cant wait to see it all finished
andy1966 Posted May 5, 2013 Author Posted May 5, 2013 Progress is progressing! Slowly but slowly. Other side of wagon interior now done. Woodburner bit of a challenge. Too many tiny "fiddly" bits. Especially the logs. Trying to make something real, gathered from the garden actually look real, by burning on a flame from a cig lighter! Without totally torching something so tiny, was another challenge! All comments welcome. Cheers, Andy.
cobraman Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Very nice, very detailed. Thats going to be very cool when done.
