smellyfatdude Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 After posting some stuff I'd finished, I thought I'd share my current project, just started this past weekend. The body was done with six coats of Tamiya TS-12 orange, and three coats of clear. I did the foil scripts prior to painting, and cleaned them off carefully with some lacquer thinner. The interior will be white seats and panels, with woodgrain accents on the black dash and console. I'm still debating whether or not to use some black stripe decals on the hood and trunk. It won't be stock in the long run, and I am going to add a photo etched SS badges to the center of the back panel, as well as the fenders. I doubt I'll use the rally rims in the kit, so the search is on for the perfect wheels. A slight rake in the back and some fat tires, those are definitely on the menu!
slusher Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Nice paint finish..looking forward to your project l love monte carlos...
Ford guy Posted March 20, 2013 Posted March 20, 2013 Sounds like some good plans SFD. I can't say I've ever seen an orange Monte Carlo before. I believe you , if anyone, can make it look cool. Can't wait to see more. Roy
smellyfatdude Posted March 25, 2013 Author Posted March 25, 2013 Here's the body after the full monty micromesh, Micro-gloss, and with stripes added. I used decals from two different ' 69 Camaro kits.
smellyfatdude Posted March 25, 2013 Author Posted March 25, 2013 Thanks BK, Dragfreak and Erik. So far, no paint mishaps which is always nice. I got the underhood area painted black, just have to take some of the sheen off of the cowl with some flat clear. I'm having trouble deciding what wheels to use. I'd like to save the rally rims in the kit for another project, so I'm open to suggestions.
scalemodelworld Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 Looks fantastic! I love the black stripes - good call! And the quality of that paint job looks amazing
guybrush Posted March 25, 2013 Posted March 25, 2013 hi this looks good so far... i will follow this build because i like the 70 monte carlo and also the kit is a nice one... here is my 70monte but not so shiny regards maik
FUSIONBOY Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 WOW!!!!!! Looks Great. Ran a couple of 70 montes at enduro races. Love the body style. Fantastic job on the paint.
Tompidom Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Those black stripes with the body color look great!
Dragfreak Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Maybe a set of torque thrusts would look good on it
charlie8575 Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 It's actually too bad that Chevrolet didn't offer that from the factory. That looks good. Charlie Larkin
slusher Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 SFD, stripes and paint look great. How about some cragers for the monte..
smellyfatdude Posted April 18, 2013 Author Posted April 18, 2013 So, a little update on the Monte. The body is as good as done, adorned with foil and black wash along the bottom. Just needs the glass in, now. The interior is finished as well, and I decided to snitch the column and wheel from the Revell ' 69 Nova kit. I also bought yet another ' 69 Nova kit this morning, (I have four now, three Special Edition, one Yenko) for the rally rims, and have decided to use them on my orange beast. Hopefully, I'll have more progress to show soon.
bandit1 Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Nice Mighty Monte so far man!...They should have had those stripes as an option from GM!
slusher Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Interior looks great SFD, the white will look really good with the body color.
RS3 Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 How's this progressing?! Looking sweet so far. Got one in progress myself, but haven't had time to post pics. Dumb ol' LIFE...
Tonioseven Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I'm watching this project closely; years ago I had Keith Marks make me a set of those stripes in metallic gold. I forgot about them until I came across this project. I hope it turns out well for you.
LOBBS Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Looks great. I've always had a thing for Montes and never understood why this kit doesn't get more love.
smellyfatdude Posted June 12, 2013 Author Posted June 12, 2013 Oops, sorry. Should have updated this one, or sadly announced it's end. This project met a fiery death a few weekends ago, while I was trying to join finished body and chassis. The mating was unsuccesful, resulting in crushed "a" pillars and a crack in the roof to boot. The body resides at the dump now, and I've saved the rest of the parts for other projects. Result - fail! Current project status - terminated# Shameless plug - if you haven't seen my current project, click here. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=76409&hl=
