Before somebody does this in real life.........................

I put this together on Forza 4 for the heck of it, fully built suspension, front aero splitter, bigger rolling stock, better electronics and hot rodded the generator.

So.................Anybody else wondering how long before somebody does something like this in real life?

The Volt is probably so nanny-state controlled, that with the exception of the spoiler and possibly the rolling stock, I don't think the car will even run after being improved.

Pity. It has a lot of potential like that.

I'd be surprised if there isn't a way to crack the computer to bump voltage, extend range, alter generator settings, ect to get more out of a stock Volt. Even if they went as overboard on encrypting the ECU as Chrysler apparently has on the Pentastar equipped cars, there could be as much if not more of a desire to retune these as there is for my 200 (for example). Most would probably want to extend battery operation range (GM has left a lot on that table) or set it up to burn a higher percentage of ethanol to use even less gasoline than they already are...........however, somebody will probably want to disable the mph limiter (which is set at 101mph), bump the voltager running to the motor, then fiddle with the speed control and throttle curve settings like you can with some R/C's to get better power and responsiveness out of them. I figure it's only a matter of time............

Joe I would think that GM has the most out of the range that you can get . Why would they hold back the one thing that stops sales of these cars? The price is the other killer.

The performance end I think you are spot on. Just wondering how long until someone gets one of these wrecked Volts and changes them into a gas car with an LS(whatever they are up to)?

They have limited the range to ensure the packs last the whole warranty period. IIRC, the car only uses half of the available power from the battery for that reason. They also have the ESC programed so that the car behaves like it has a normal engine in it vs violent low end grunt the moment you tough the pedal. Wouldn't put LS motor in one, that kinda defeats the purpose of having an electric car........not to mention how much work it would take to fit one in the Volt/Cruze/Verano platform.

The Volt is built for a purpose, much like all the other Eco friendly Electric/ Hybrid cars. Any tinkering would impact the designed efficiency of the vehicle I would think. For me I would never want to modify one, nor would I ever be smart enough. I am not a Software Engineer, Cryptologist, Electrician, and a Mechanical Engineer. Here's to you OP for being a dreamer though and thinking out of the box...
