Monty Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 (edited) I've got the AMT '73 Cougar, and I noticed it has a 428 & 429, neither of which would be correct for that model year. A little research indicates that Ford offered the '73 with either a 351W or 351C. Are there good (stock-ish) 351Ws in 1/25? Could the Monogram 1/24 Boss 302 pass for a 351C in this car? (If possible, I'd prefer to use what I have instead of buying more kits, but I'd be happy to make a trade or two if necessary). Edited March 26, 2013 by Monty
Casey Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 The Revell 302s ('32 Fords) are close and in the same family as the 302W, but the 351 Windsor has a taller deck and slightly different heads. If you're not too picky, go with the SBF from one of the Revell Deuce kits. The AMT '67 Mustang's 289 is in the same Windsor family, but has the same lower deck height as the 302. I don't think there's ever been an accurate 351C engine done in bi-scale, and it's very different from the Windsor series engines.
MAGNUM4342 Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Not even the Ross Gibson Cleveland? If it was a definite gotta have it he's expensive but a very close Cleveland.

It's 1/24th though.
TooOld Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 The '70 Mach I has a really nice 351C in it and the scale difference isn't noticeable , I used one in my '72 Ranchero build . The only thing is it doesn't have stock Cleveland valve covers .

I don't remember any serious complaints about it from the hyper nit-pickers, so I assume Revellogram got it fairly close. IIRC, the only flaw they could find was that the valve covers weren't the regular stamped steel units.
TooOld Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 This is the 351C from the Mach I kit . I modified the chrome valve covers to look like the stamped steel ones .

Excellent work on the valve covers! Please tell me you cast several sets of those to sell to those of us who aren't as gifted at scratchbuilding our own parts. I see some other details you added as well. Nicely done!
Monty Posted March 27, 2013 Author Posted March 27, 2013 How about the 351 in the AMT "Phantom" Ford Van ? Great idea! There's a YouTube review that says it's a 351W, which was the base engine for the '73 Cougar. It should also be readily available since the kit was just re-released recently.
