mcgedert Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Here is my new project. A 1932 ford sedan rat rod. I decided that instead of cutting the whole roof out, like most rats. I am just cutting the skull out. I started with a stencil of the skull i wanted to cut out.
mcgedert Posted March 27, 2013 Author Posted March 27, 2013 Then i used a dremal to rough cut the pattern out.
mcgedert Posted March 27, 2013 Author Posted March 27, 2013 With a small drill bit and an exacto knife i cut in some of the finer details.
mcgedert Posted March 27, 2013 Author Posted March 27, 2013 This is what i ended up with. I have some snading and choping yet to do.
crazyrichard Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 hmm very different and although the skull theme isnt my thing in real life i think this in scale is going to look sick !! out of the box coolness if you ask me
bpletcher55 Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 MATTHEW, THAT IS COOL ,ALOT OF WORK BUT BIG PAY OFF ,I,LL BE WATCHING THIS ONE,
mcgedert Posted April 3, 2013 Author Posted April 3, 2013 Have made some progress. Got it chopped and painted.
Tom Geiger Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Very cool work. The only suggestion I have would be to somehow disguise the thickness of the roof that you can see in your last photo. Either do some sanding from inside the body, or paint the edges of your cuts with flat black.
Tukkerdax Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 (edited) Very cool work. The only suggestion I have would be to somehow disguise the thickness of the roof that you can see in your last photo. Either do some sanding from inside the body, or paint the edges of your cuts with flat black. Indeed, thats exactly what i should do ....by the way, very nice idea and nice build sofar. Dr. Cranky Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Very cool design and although it's labor intensive the pay off is big.
greasymodels Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 This is a great idea!!!! I am going to follow this!!!!!! idea skelton guy from the lil coffin kit would top it off nice!!
Jim Whalen Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Hi, Excellent idea with the roof and it looks really good. I'd go with Tom's suggestion to thin the roof from the inside as well. Like the paintwork you've done - it gives just the right amount of character. Cheers, Jim
crazyrichard Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 whow came out awsome !! really love it .. the thickness of the material is a slight issue yes , one option would have been to cut the design out of thin styrene and work that into the roof like a square with some bracing inside and flatten the seems so it was one with the foof again . that way it would have looked like sheetmetal .. maybe a idea for next time ?!! still really digging it
JasonFL Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Now that's a cool idea, very different. I haven't seen anything like this done. Gonna look really cool when it's all done, nice job so far.
mcgedert Posted April 16, 2013 Author Posted April 16, 2013 After some alterations, z'd the frame, interior fixes. At last after blood had been spilled, I give you ...... THE DEVIL DEUCE!!!!
bpletcher55 Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 VERY COOL RAT SATAN WOULD BE PROUD ,NICE WORK!
Tom Geiger Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 very cool. You did enough details without overdoing it! The roof came out nicely too. Glad to see you managed to disguise the edges of your cuts
