mcgedert
Here is my new project. A 1932 ford sedan rat rod. I decided that instead of cutting the whole roof out, like most rats. I am just cutting the skull out. I started with a stencil of the skull i wanted to cut out.
mcgedert
Then i used a dremal to rough cut the pattern out.
mcgedert
With a small drill bit and an exacto knife i cut in some of the finer details.
mcgedert
This is what i ended up with. I have some snading and choping yet to do.

Tom Geiger
Very cool work. The only suggestion I have would be to somehow disguise the thickness of the roof that you can see in your last photo. Either do some sanding from inside the body, or paint the edges of your cuts with flat black.

Jim Whalen
Hi, Excellent idea with the roof and it looks really good. I'd go with Tom's suggestion to thin the roof from the inside as well. Like the paintwork you've done - it gives just the right amount of character. Cheers, Jim

crazyrichard
whow came out awsome !! really love it .. the thickness of the material is a slight issue yes , one option would have been to cut the design out of thin styrene and work that into the roof like a square with some bracing inside and flatten the seems so it was one with the foof again . that way it would have looked like sheetmetal .. maybe a idea for next time ?!! still really digging it
JasonFL
Now that's a cool idea, very different. I haven't seen anything like this done. Gonna look really cool when it's all done, nice job so far.

Tom Geiger
very cool. You did enough details without overdoing it! The roof came out nicely too. Glad to see you managed to disguise the edges of your cuts
