geordie Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 I started this kit fifteen years...........and two kids ago (I have four total). It was the first kit I bought after arriving in the US from the UK. I need to get back into this hobby and have opted to finish this kit before starting anything new. Kit is basically stock, chassis and running gear were done years ago, interior was 'aluminum sheetmetal', body paint was some shade of purple. Engine is wired but otherwise stock. Interior is in the trash now, as is the body........new parts are from the Revell '55 Street Machine kit. Plan is to finish the kit with new, basically black, street machine interior, basic roll cage, simple matt black body, with a few decals, clear glass. Wish me luck.........
geordie Posted May 26, 2013 Author Posted May 26, 2013 Started tonight by preping the body, removing all the rear quarter trim. Researching 55 Chevy photos, the shape of the rear quarter windows looks wrong and the front fender belt line seems to extend too far to the rear. I'll do a bit more looking and consider reworking these.
cobraman Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Good luck with the build David. Keep us posted on the progress.
Skip Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 I think rather than going for amazing detail and accuracy with the Badman, if it were me coming back from a 15 year modeling hiatus I would use this one as a tune up to rebuilding skills. Have fun with this one then work up to accuracy if that's your thing.
geordie Posted May 28, 2013 Author Posted May 28, 2013 That's kinda what I'm doing Skip, using this kit as a tune up...........but there's some things I can't let slide. Managed to grab a couple of hours this weekend, removing the rear quarter trim and reshaping the rear quarter windows, got a lot of work to do before the body will be ready for paint.
geordie Posted June 11, 2013 Author Posted June 11, 2013 Finally some real progress!!! The wife and three of the kids were out of the house this weekend. I got more done than I have in the last ten years combined. The body is just about ready for paint, the trim has been removed from the rear quarters, the front fender line has been reduced in length, the rear pillars have been reshaped and the shut lines have been defined. A little bit of filler here and there. The transparent hood scoop will be painted body color. Still thinking a matt black body color with aluminum and black interior, basic bad *** drag car. I've got the seats prepped and the kit roll cage (very basic) assembled. Most of all I've got my enthusiasm for this hobby back !!!
PappyD340 Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Good start David, I din't know how old you kids are , but I have three grands and they are 4,3, 11/2 and when they are here at the house I pretty much have to close up shop, it's very hard to get any modeling accomplished when you got little ones around, as they say down here in the south you got to make hay while the sun is shinning, same goes for modeling you get some work in when you can. Anyway looking forward to seeing it finished!!
geordie Posted June 12, 2013 Author Posted June 12, 2013 Still got the 'bit between my teeth'. This evening I cut out the crude stock radiator from the core support. It will be replaced with one from the parts box. The air is so dry and hot here in Tucson that the filler is dry and lumpy before you get a chance to spread it. I need to get a new tube, the one I'm using at the moment is probably five years old. Also I'll try adding a little liquid cement.
