martinfan5 Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Yes, you read that correctly , I am building Revells 50 Olds kit, and I must say, its a very nice kit, I am doing this for Junes same kit club theme, so I have sort of figured out my plans since I am not able to build the Baker's special that I had plan, so I am going to do it as a semi stock, or maybe a sleeper , I am playing with the idea of doing an engine swap on it, the boss chose the color since she bought the kit and the paint, and its is going to be Tamiya TS-37 Lavender, its going to be shot over a black base, and I think I am going to do a few coats of Tamiya clear pearl over it, anyways, lets get started, I don't have a lot time on this, two weeks. Body out of the box Body in some primer and removed the mold/seem lines And the frame in black, but I am thinking about doing in body color
maltsr Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Have I woken up in an alternate universe Jonathan? Can't wait to see this progress.
martinfan5 Posted June 4, 2013 Author Posted June 4, 2013 (edited) Time for a little update, there going to be a lot of pics in this one Starting with the floor pan, its painted and the frame in body color, now this is not the correct shade , I will have to do an outdoor shot to see if I can get it to show fire wall in place, and in body color and body ready for the black base coat Working cutting down the springs, after this pic, I removed a little bit more Edited June 4, 2013 by martinfan5
martinfan5 Posted June 4, 2013 Author Posted June 4, 2013 Painted the brake drums, I used MM brunt metal on them and here is the rear axle with the springs , getting ready to a ride height mock up Here you will see the kit stock ride height and here is the ride height that I was at, I have since lowered it a little more and here is where the ride height sits right now, I dont think I am going any lower then this and I think this will be the engine I am going to use, the 396 from the camaro convert kit

martinfan5 Posted June 4, 2013 Author Posted June 4, 2013 Got the body in color, but it dried with a lot of texture, I thought I had crazed the body , it was that bad, so here is the body after I finished wetsanding it with 1000 , so up next, another round of paint, this is a very hard color to get the correct hue to show, even outside in sunlight, the color is a little darker , and a little more purple
martinfan5 Posted June 5, 2013 Author Posted June 5, 2013 about another mock up shot showing the new ride height, this time with the body on frame, and I was able to get close to the true color to show up in the pic and after I rub out the roof , this was just using rubbing compound, no polish yet, and the rest of the body is done now, just no pics yet, when the can of pearl clear coat arrives, I will get the body cleared with it

Agent G Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 (edited) AKA " the Sgt Major ", and my fave "The War Department". Absolutely nothing wrong with the color, in fact polished like that it really makes an impact. Kinda like a bull in a china shop............................. G Edited June 6, 2013 by Agent G
martinfan5 Posted June 7, 2013 Author Posted June 7, 2013 Started work on the interior, body color and Tamiya light grey from the can , and for the dash, since I ran out of paint while I was trying to get the dash painted, I had a bottle of MM purple pearl , so that is what I used to finish the dash with and a sort of mock up now, on to the chassis , since I am using the 396 with bigger headers, the stock exhaust pipe just wont cut it, so after some head scratching, and trying different exhaust pipes, this is what I think I am settling on, its the one of two that are very close in diameter to the headers, they are from the Impala SS kit, so still keeping it in the GM family and a mock up, as you can see, for the most part, they fit it pretty darn good, the only issue, well one of them is the placement of the mufflers, sitting right on top on the trailing arms, so I am thinking about routing it to the sides and here you can see how nice the 396 fills up the engine bay

G Y'know, earlier I was bemoaning being single to a friend of mine who's getting married next year. You two are changing my mind really quickly! Nice progress on this otherwise. One thought: you might want to take the cats off those pipes, a 396 will toast those almost immediately. Charlie Larkin

Charlie Larkin That was the plan for the exhaust, well I am still planning it out, but that was the first thing I am going to do for two reason's, one for what you said, and two, the headers come back past them, so I need to cut the off to be able to connect them to the engine
