OldsklMike Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Hello, New to the board and trying my hand at this message board thing so if something doesn't work i'll try again.. Just completed a Jalopy 1938 era dry lakes car of So.Cal. AMT 29 Ford with the Revell 29 PU engine. This is how they ran them in th 1930's, unbolt anything you could to make them go Fast. Enjoy... Jairus Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Welcome Mike! Very nice build and looks like you will fit in here beautifully! Have fun, keep your hands and arms inside the car at all times, your mileage may vary.
dub Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Glad to see you here Mike! That build looks fantstic. Be careful, this place is addicting. I've only been a member on here a month and i'm already over 100 posts! Also glad to see another local on here. B)
Taxdude Posted October 20, 2007 Posted October 20, 2007 Now that screams weekly driver/weekend racer, very cool
James W Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Welcome! Looks like you have this posting thing licked. Came through nicely. Beautiful lake rod. Leaving the running boards on is a nice touch. (early street/strip?) Don't believe Jairus comment about mileage, gas was cheap in the 30's anyway.
cruz Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Welcome my friend, it is always nice to see a new member joining us and most of all someone that works with a lot of weathering techniques, if you are planning to post more pictures, specially in progress pictures it would be nice if you can share with us those techniques, very nice job on this one...................
RatRod Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Very, very nice work on this one!!!! Looks real!!!
flatheadgary Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 that is so cool it makes ya wanna cry. i have this book called "muroc when the hot rods ran" by william carroll. it is about a day at the lakes. may 15, 1938. i can tell you your model is dead nuts on the money. great build. there was always different thoughts on the hood though. did the areodynamics provide more speed than the negative wieght of it slow it down. either way, that is so nice. love the weathering. in this book, the main culpurts flat tow there '29 roadster from la to muroc and i thought what would make a cool mini diorama would be dust weathering and something like a "A bone" truck towing it. anyway, great job!!
oldstyle Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 WOW.. a Realy Cool Thing great Wheatering and Detailing Uwe
ScaleModelFan Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Hi ya OldsklMike ... Welcome to the neighborhood ... and thanks for sharing the very cool drylakes rod! Nice work!
Matt T. Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 Welcome, Mike! I've always enjoyed your stuff at NNL East. Glad to see you posting here. The '29 looks perfect. You did 1938 proud with this one!
OldsklMike Posted October 26, 2007 Author Posted October 26, 2007 Thanks for the great welcome guys and comments. The insperation for this build came when I started reading some books from Don Montgomery. Thanks goes to Norm Veber for getting me hooked on all of Don's books. I'm planning on building another car to repersent the upgrades that would have happened 10 yrs later to the car. Gathering parts for it now 32 rails to fit a 29, 3 duece flathead, quickchange and all the other speed goodies. Should be a fun build.. Thank You Again - Mike
Daniel Peterson Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 This one's typical Dube...neat concept, dead-on execution, old skool flavor. And for those who don't know, his build-ups look even better in person! We even grabbed one of them for the photo on the main page of our club web site.
