debaronFR Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Bugatti Royale is one of favorite subject. So i'm trying to build the famous (and expensive) "roadster Esders", one of the Bugatti Royale destroyed and rebuilt by the french museum of Mulhouse. Specialists consider this car as the masterchief piece of Jean Bugatti design. for this very singular project, i use a "Victoria" Lindberg 1/24 kit and a "Coupé Napoléon" Testors-Italeri 1/24 kit. I used parts of the wings Lindberg kit and the Italeri kit for main part body. Now i'm working on the paints, not the easyer point to do!
Paul H Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Great to see this after your other T41 builds I think that I have some blueprints for the Esders body (I was going to use them for a 1:16 conversion) - will check on my home computer later. If you'd like a copy, please send me a message with your email address

sjordan2 Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 That new color is much better. Great to see this after your other T41 builds I think that I have some blueprints for the Esders body (I was going to use them for a 1:16 conversion) - will check on my home computer later. If you'd like a copy, please send me a message with your email address Are you going to use the 1:16 Fuman/Bandai Royale version as a starting point?
Paul H Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 (edited) Looking good - can't wait to see more! I think that I have some blueprints for the Esders body (I was going to use them for a 1:16 conversion) Managed to find the blueprint again online: http://carblueprints.info/blueprints/bugatti/bugatti-royale-esders.gif Are you going to use the 1:16 Fuman/Bandai Royale version as a starting point? I was, but had to have a clear out of model kits recently (still ongoing....) for space reasons, so I no longer have the donor kit. However, if the one that I built several years ago ever meets a mishap, depending on the damage (the body on these kits is notoriously weak & mine has already had several repairs), it may well end up being rebodied as an Esders replica.... The Creative Explorer Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 What I find a huge let down of the Napoleon kit, is the sides of the hood. They need to represent open doors for cooling the engines. I tried on my Napoleon to cut them open and glue them in, but since they are so small and plenty, it is hard to get it nice. So I am now working of making Photo etched sides, with cut outs for the doors.
Bugatti Fan Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Your project is looking good Francois. Look forward to seeing it finished. If you do not already have it, there is a book by Master Modeller Gerald Wingrove named The Complete Car Modeller 2. This second book of his on scratch building features how he built a 1/15th scale model of the Weinberger Royale. You will find this book very interesting. It is published by Haynes in the UK...ISBN 0-85429-857-6 His first book is about scratch building model cars in general. I recently scratch built a Type 59 for the IPMS Scale Modelworld Show at Telford last year. I used Litho plate to make the hood so maybe you could use litho plate for the vents on the hood sides of your Type 41. Look for my Type 59 in the Big Boyz section of this forum and you will see what the hood looks like. I formed each louver in the litho plate. It is very thin aluminium and works well. A printer may be able to give you some Litho plate.
debaronFR Posted June 11, 2013 Author Posted June 11, 2013 following stape, the drk green painting. many details to finish. green combination seem light, but it look closed to the picture: still working on the dashboard fill confident to finish the paints!

Managed to find the blueprint again online: http://carblueprints.info/blueprints/bugatti/bugatti-royale-esders.gif This scheme show the top of the rear body in dark green. French national car museun reconstitution show in light green... so i followed this option...

I read he was permanently in contact with the first owner, Dr Fuchs, so I believe this model car is the perfect reconstitution of the delivery car. I hope i'll be in capacity, some day, to start a such big project you're doing!

sjordan2 Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 (edited) This page on making opening radiator shutters for a Rolls Phantom II might be useful reference for the Bugatti side vents. The main point is gluing vertical rods behind the vents to fix each vent in place in a certain open position. http://www.scalemotorcars.com/forum/large-scale-cars/53731-1-6-rolls-royce-phantom-ii.html Edited June 11, 2013 by sjordan2

I started one year ago, and now I wish to see it finished. My project was to have an idea of the car in 1/24 scale 3D and to test my capacity to build it in scratch parts. I know how to do it, and i'll start a new one with easyer ways and more details, as engine, doors and others openings. I'm not quite satisfied about many small details, so it's too late to perfect this model. Edited June 12, 2013 by debaronFR
sjordan2 Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Someone is having severe delusions: a 1/8 scratch built Weinberg cabriolet for $55,000. Not particularly precise. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-8-scale-scratch-built-1932-Weinberger-Bugatti-Royale-by-giuseppe-da-Corte-/160806814841?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item2570d54479

He should try something more common. but he'll expect more money because it's a Bugatti!
