This is the second building of this kit. first one was difficult because front and rear parts are divided in two pieces. but with time and more experiences, I find easyer way to build it!

i choose an unusual paint color, but this is an official color of Mercedes Museum in Stuttgart, a beautifulll orange color. because, perhaps your TV infos speak about, in Europe we suffering a great despress, A bad consequence of your bank system crisis.. perahps you know, but all happen in States have large effects in all the world!

so this a respons of crisis! in fact this car was built for american market, because people didn't support very small interior of the 300 SL coupé with "wings" doors.

Looking good. What parts have tissue?

PS: The windshield shape is clearly wrong on This kit. Do you have plans to modify it?

One other error in the kit is that the nose badge decal is the red & black logo from the 1920s-30s, and should be the current blue and silver laurel design.

the body of the this car looks quite nice and accurate.

The front fenders are a little too "humped" on top, like the Italeri Gullwing version, but otherwise it's a beautifully detailed kit with the best engine and interior available for a 300 SL model. Supposedly, it's a scaled-up clone of the Italeri/Testors 1/24 kit, but I think this 1/16 has better detail. I love the way François is going with this and I think it's going to be stunning.

The kit was also issued in an extremely rare Revell version with electronic headlights. There's one on eBay right now.

I hope you'll appreciate. I'd just found his sister, the coupé "Papillon", still in 1/16 scale and Italeri kit.

I preferred the gullwing coupe in red, but the roadster looks really nice how you built it

Well, red is very very "hasbeen", too much cars in this color so any interest. but my gullwing (in French we say "butterfly doors") coupé will be in dark grey with red interior, and specific luggages, as you know.

something like this (old car magazine pictures "Automobiles Classiques" 1994 december)

I know oldies are not prefered subject for young builders, it's damaged for memory. next building is quite closed to this one, I'm happy to found this rare kit of the legendar 300 SL "gullwing" (in France we name "butterfly doors"), and i'll build it in dark grey.

in fact, i have the opportunity to treat both versions, a collector, the Heller 1/24 kit

13053112473516079111247740.jpg

and Italeri in 1/16, very closed to this build

in news specifics posts.

For the 1/16 Gullwing, I recommend sanding down the front fenders, which are a bit too fat.
