Monty Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 (edited) ... and it looks like I've been visiting the local "adult entertainment" club because I have metal flake all over me! Next time, point the nozzle toward the model and save your $1.00 bills for more paint. In all seriousness, many of the colors in this line are beautiful, but I despise the size and amount of flake Testors dumped into some of them & as such won't use them. Edited June 20, 2013 by Monty
LDO Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Sounds cool for a '70s custom van, though. Are all their metal flakes like this, or only lime?
Eshaver Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 The A M C Silver metallic is pretty sparkly ................
martinfan5 Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Sounds cool for a '70s custom van, though. Are all their metal flakes like this, or only lime? All the colors are, some dont seem as bad others The A M C Silver metallic is pretty sparkly ................ Made that mistake as and used that one too
freakshow12 Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 The diamond dust I used on my 50 ford was that way. I found on last color coat if you hold it farther back some of the flake dissipates and it looks better
slusher Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Not had this problem but have not used it in a while are they useing more flake in the newer cans?
Monty Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Sounds cool for a '70s custom van, though. Are all their metal flakes like this, or only lime? From what I've seen on this & other hobby boards, the heavy flake issue seems to be a random issue within the Testors One Coat lacquers*. For instance, the Inca Gold and Mystic Emerald are fantastic colors, while IMNSHO, the flake kind of overwhelms the color on Diamond Dust, Graphite Dust and Star-Spangled Blue. If they could get the flake size down like Tamiya, I'd be thrilled. *Old-style Testors metalflake enamels were usually listed as such so you generally knew what you were buying.
Monty Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 The A M C Silver metallic is pretty sparkly ................ Are we talking about Sterling Silver? That's disappointing. Maybe I can trade my sealed cans off in the Trade section.

I like the Graphite dust, to me, the flakes dont seem to be to big in that one , well at least not the cans I have used
JM485 Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Just for reference, this Viper was painted with Graphite Dust. I airbrushed it though because I have had more luck with using it that way.
Gramps2u Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 I liked the look of the "Root Beer". The flex in it was not oversize to ruin the effect . Lime Ice on the other hand, I thought it was some what close to Boyds lime pearl. Oversize flex gives that "bass boat" Gel coat finish...
