The other day I was perusing the HAMB and the running thread "Vintage shots from days gone by".I came across a photo of a '32 Caddy that had been converted into a tow truck.i liked it and since I had the Monogram '32 Caddy dual cowl Phaeton i decided to make the conversion. It will not be an exact repo of the photo but close.I have rescribed the front door and have begun to rough in the truck portion. 001_zps1a0225df.jpg

Cool. A lot of those big old classics made their way to truckdom since they were huge, powerful and essentially built on a truck chassis to start with. I have a '27 Lincoln on it's way to having a huge wood truck body on the back.

Don't forget that with the advent of WWll and the implementation of gas rationing, many owners of fine cars had them converted to trucks(especially farm trucks) so that the owners could continue to drive them. There is at least one documented case of the owner of a Dusenberg who had it converted to a stake bed flat bed for that purpose. He had the coach builders save the older body so that it could be reconverted after the war.

I painted the body and hood Tamiya Gold Leaf. The plan is to use vinyl letters and numbers as negative masks which will create the lettering after the body is painted black and the stickers peeled off. 004_zps22b4e547.jpg
