RancheroSteve Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 http://visboo.com/1946-la.html Looks like that's taken on Westwood Boulevard, looking north across Wilshire into Westwood Village. Needless to say, it looks a little different these days, but still it's recognizable from this photo.
zenrat Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Don't the cars all sit high with stock, un-sagged suspension. Anyone close enough to get us the equivalent shot today? I bet the sky isn't as clear or the buildings as clean.
RancheroSteve Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I can't address the air quality in 1946 (I wasn't born yet), but I've lived in Los Angeles since 1973 and the air is the cleanest it's ever been. Just a bit more crowded, though This intersection is about ten miles west of me and I don't have much reason to get over there very often, but do a Google Maps Street View of "Wilshire and Westwood Los Angeles" to see it now.
charlie8575 Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Beautiful original Kodachrome or Veri-Chrome. For color saturation and appearance, very little, digital or film, comes truly close. Great picture. Charlie Larkin
zenrat Posted July 28, 2013 Posted July 28, 2013 (edited) Thanks Steve. I can't find the exact spot (are the green or gold domes still there?) but it's more built up now and yes, the sky does look pretty clear. I used (10 years ago) to work on the 10th floor of an office building in central London which was the level at which the exhaust fumes (diesel buses & taxis) stopped. There was a definite demarkation line between filth and clear air. Edited July 28, 2013 by zenrat
