greymack Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Hi guys just wondering if anyone has a idea where I can find bias ply looking truck or car tires? Which kits have them if any ?
southpier Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 the revel 37 ford truck has nice tires if the vintage look is what you're after. modelhaus probably has some if you can muddle through: http://koolestkruzers.smileyforum.net/t1572-modelhaus http://public.fotki.com/jsharisky/modelhaus_resin_items/
Monty Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 It would be helpful if you told us what they were going to be used on. Stock '57 Chevy? '70 Chevelle SS?
greymack Posted August 15, 2013 Author Posted August 15, 2013 Hi guys well the tires I'm looks for would of came on old pickups from the 50's- 70's
Monty Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 IIRC, the Revell '64 Chevy pickup comes with a set of BF Goodrich Silvertown tires, which I assume were period-correct for that truck. Maybe one of our members can post up some pics of those. Tires changed quite a bit from the '50s to the '70s, so again, you may need to narrow your focus. What, specifically, are you building?
Art Anderson Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Hi guys well the tires I'm looks for would of came on old pickups from the 50's- 70's Almost every kit of an American pickup from their beginnings in the 1920's through at least the middle 1970's came with bias ply type tires originally, if for no other reason than American model car kit manufacturers tended to use the same tires in model kits for years. It might help if you could be more specific as to the kit(s) for which you are trying to locate stock-looking tires. Art
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Most everything AMT made from the beginning through at least the late '60s had bias-ply 15" tires, some labeled "Firestone" and with raised ridges to make painting the whitewalls relatively easy. Shown on the front, here...
Foxer Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 (edited) Try Ma's Resin. I had some tires listed as 50's Truck Tires but don't see them currently listed. His phone number is sure to be listed there somewhere to see what he has. The one's I ordered were "a 1 Ton truck tire" and "a 50's style 1 Ton truck tire". There's a photo on this page of the van build I was using them for. Edited August 17, 2013 by Foxer
