Bastardo Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 I started work on this monster right after I finished my Impreza (which I still have to photo...). A classic Monogram's '70 Superbird. Got it about a month ago and couldn't wait to start working on it I've done a thing or two to it. My holidays are over so the progress is going to be much slower than on the Impreza. Here are a few shots of it: Content: Cleaned all the parts of flash and excess plastic: Glued the seats. Plenty of puttying and sanding to be done here... Cut out one of the front lights: Removed one hood pin:
Bastardo Posted August 20, 2013 Author Posted August 20, 2013 I made the rust-through holes and other damage zones on the body. I think I'll add some more, but let's say this is at about 90% I also dechromed the parts using Cilit Bang: There, that's it for a start. I'll continue work on it ASAP
Joker Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 That vinyl top is a great water trapper too. Can't wait to see what you come up with. Shades of "Joe Dirt".
Bastardo Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 Yep, vinyl is going to get messed up pretty badly... I removed the molded base for a plastic mesh... It sucked... I'll put real mesh in and allow a view to the undercarriage, radiator, engine... TBC!
Bastardo Posted August 26, 2013 Author Posted August 26, 2013 Thanx, Larry The work has continued Seats sorted out: Engine halves had a poor fit... But a bit of putty and some sanding can solve a lot I crashed the front end into a lamp post... All parts have been washed and soon they shall recieve some paint TBC!
Bastardo Posted August 28, 2013 Author Posted August 28, 2013 Finally did some airbrushing again Parts and paint: Primed (airbrushed red Motip primer): All parts in primer:
Bastardo Posted August 28, 2013 Author Posted August 28, 2013 Green base for the interior: Orange peel on purpose - going to try something new this time...
Bastardo Posted August 28, 2013 Author Posted August 28, 2013 Tamiya brown: Due to exhaustion and the late hour I stopped at this phase, but today the show continues After I finish the rust with salt technique, I'll have to decide about aplying the body color - over salt or hairspray... TBC!
Bastardo Posted August 29, 2013 Author Posted August 29, 2013 Thank you, Roy After some salting and some airbrushing here are the results: TBC!
Jeremy Jon Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 That sure is a "rust bucket" LOL ...good paint work, nicely done!
Bastardo Posted August 29, 2013 Author Posted August 29, 2013 Thanx, Jeremy! Not all the rust will be visible in the end
beeRS Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 Wow - that is the best looking rust I have ever seen on a 1/25 model. Please explain the salt technique that you mention, or tell me where I can find out how to do this.

Bastardo Posted August 30, 2013 Author Posted August 30, 2013 Thank you for your comments, guys! Sonny: As James mentioned - Dr. Cranky explains it all in his tutorials However, I will make a short how-to with a few pictures and post it in the following days. It's just... My days are way too short and I just can't find the time to do it... :/
TFchronos Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Awesome work on rusting it out! It looks great so far.
Bastardo Posted September 6, 2013 Author Posted September 6, 2013 Thanx, guys! On we go Salted, painted, unsalted...
Bastardo Posted September 6, 2013 Author Posted September 6, 2013 A lil' bit of detailing on the engine and some other parts: Scratch-building of the ignition distributor: Dashboard: I know, I need to fix that silver... Dry-brush on the rims: Revell enamels and salt-chipping technique don't mix... I had problems removing the salt from the painted bumper... TBC!
freakshow12 Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 That looks really good. I must point out that your valve covers are on the wrong sides though.
