PappyD340 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 That's a very COOL idea, and a real good way to recycle, looks NICE!!
S. Svendsen Posted February 25, 2014 Author Posted February 25, 2014 Isn't this the one that was shown under "general" when you first got it? Man, you really made a nice display out of it! Yes, that was before I rebuilt it.
Ramfins59 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Sean, that really looks great. If you don't mind me asking, where did you get it, and how much did you pay for it...??
Ramfins59 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Never mind, I should have clicked on your link and read what you wrote BEFORE I asked those questions...
Duntov Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 This is just pure class --- inventive --- classy --- very nice!!!!
S. Svendsen Posted February 26, 2014 Author Posted February 26, 2014 Here's the display after my custom restoration job.
Johnag4004 Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Wow Sean, that is stunning and really suits displaying the cars...
cartpix Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Since it has the center that looks like it holds gas, you could get a lighted globe and a gas hose/handle and make it a faux gas pump. Zippo lighter displays work better for Hot Wheels.
stang_crazy Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 I found a gun cabinet that's about 36" by 48" roughly has a glass door. It appears to be home made & has a fluorescent light in it to. The shop wants like $48.00 for it which im sure I could build one for a bit less but then id have to build it etc... This one all I need to do is add some shelves and ill sand it down and re stain and hang on the wall. Its nice and lite also. I'm going to see if they will take a lil less its been there forever. Just been waiting to get some extra moneys. Ill post pics when I get it and after I add shelves, etc.. Mike
Jantrix Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Here's something I'm wondering. Getting cases made by a company that does acrylic/lexan/plexiglass work is usually cost prohibitive. But what if we only needed half a case? This is the ultra coveted Frankin Mint case. I wonder how expensive it would be to just have the clear portion made locally? Doing it this way, you could change any $5 IKEA shelf into a disaply case. Anyone have any insight/experience/knowledge of the industry? Economically feasible?
High octane Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 JohnU, A few years back I bought a good sized curio cabinet to display my built models. There was plenty of room left over for more cars, so it did inspire me to finish more modeling projects. I may have to add another shelf soon.
