Scottnkat Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Here's my daughter's AMT Toyota Supra. This was a yard sale find that she bought for $1. It was missing parts, but she made due (with some help from my parts stash). She also changed the wheels and tires over to these ones - she really liked the wire wheels rather than the spokes that came with the kit. She decided to have the hood made into a large picture of me and her together. She also flocked the interior and used her own personal tastes in the color selections. We hope you enjoy this: Here's a close-up of the hood: and here's her engine:
HondaSan72 Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Wow... This looks awesome!! That color choice is absolutely beautiful! That was a great buy and a great build!! I love the idea of you and your daughter building together. Can't wait to see what you build next!!
MikeyB08 Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Awesome on many levels. Good lessons to be learned from building models. Lessons that many children lack today (sounds weird to say since Im only 24 lol). Great job! Have to agree on the color choice. Its purty. Got the name of it?
Kennyboy Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Great find and really nice build/fitment of the parts from your stash. This is something she can be proud of! My daughter loves it when we build together too. I cherish those times!
Shardik Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Great build. Great project. Great fun! I think the hood is my favorite part. I had the pleasure of building a couple of models with my daughter when she was younger, and I will forever treasure the experience.
PappyD340 Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Yep, savor every one of those moments Scott, and I think it's great that you have made modeling a family affair, but anyway your daughter did an excellent job on her build, and I know she's just as proud of it as you are of her, great job!!
Scuderia Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 She did a bang up job on this one and good taste in wheel and color combos. She has an eye for autos for sure. This ones pretty slick, way better than my stuff at that age lol.
W-409 Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Well the subject doesn't fit into my interests, but it sure is nicely built. Nice paint work and cleanly assembled. My favorite part is the tire and wheel choice. Much better than those low profile tires and big wheels. Very nice!
Scottnkat Posted October 19, 2013 Author Posted October 19, 2013 Genevieve says thank you to everyone. She did design this herself. She picked out the pic, measured the hood, figured out where it would go, decided on the lettering, and everything. The wheels had to be drilled out in back to fit on the axles. This whole car was her choice without any concessions to anything. She enjoys model building and has built probably a dozen cars, a couple of Star Trek ships, and four sailing ships (though she hates the rigging part of sailing ships). James, the color is Krylon X Metals purple over Krylon silver paint.
slusher Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Real nice build. Great touch on the hood photo...
508boricua Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Great build!! Love the father, daughter pic.
kmjmusic Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Looks great!! I have a 7 year old myself and am looking forward to our first build. Tell her keep up the great work!!
vwdave92 Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 that is SUPER cool. I have NEVER thought of that but may have to make up some family decals or something
123yokomo Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 really cool love the idea of the family decal
kilrathy10 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 That's cute....Very cute....And a pretty good find for a dollar....She did a great job.....
charlie8575 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 I think the hood is awesome. Very nice work, young lady and Dad. I tried so hard when I taught to get across that building stuff is fun. Y'know- I think an issue of MCM should be dedicated to youth builders and parent/kid projects. I'd even be willing to contribute part of commentary or a guest editorial as a teacher and someone still involved to a degree in educational activities. Charlie Larkin
