Glad to be of help, Kerry. I wasn't aware the Shriners (another group affiliated with the Masons, by the way), are doing dental surgery as well. Whatever the source of help, I'm glad your little one is getting it.

I also think it's fantastic that you and your family are doing something to promote awareness of this illness- I remember you mentioning it in another post sometime back, and when I saw this, it jogged my memory. Nice to see your church helping out, too- very few of the churches in this area would actually dare do such a thing.

Yes they are a Mason group and every year at our Memorial Day parade in the town where I grew up they have five different Shriner groups come through and every year Lilly stands with a sign saying thanks to the Shriners. It brings a huge smile to their face and they talk about it like crazy.....

A great story Kerry and your daughter is an inspiration to all of us. My problems are so insignificant compared to the challenges she has faced and yet she seems to be a happy little girl, something I am sure you and your wife have had a lot to do with. It amazes me to see parents of special needs children and how they are able to handle the difficulties that come with having a child who requires the care they do. I believe that God selects special people for special children and you have illustrated that here in this post.

Amen Mike!!!!!! I believe you're right on that. In my younger years I wasn't the best person. Looking back now after having my daughter and gong through what we have, it's made ME a better person just being around Lilly and her happiness and exuberance. Sh is a care free, happy girl and shows it quite often. She will be your friend til the end because all she see's in anyone is the good!!! You could do her wrong and she'll still love ya. That could be in part that she doesn't understand sarcasm or when people do bad things. She has been an inspiration to me as well, like I wrote earlier people ask who my hero is....... My hero is Lilly!!!! Her strength and persaverence to go on even when things don't look good.

My wife and I are a big part of the way she is, is the fact that since she's been born this is all she knows, she doesn't know what it's like to be "Normal" that's why a medically challenged child is always harder on the parents than the child!!

I'm just up the road from you in Muskego. I really liked that video. My bosses are Masons and in the Tripoli Shrine as well. They do good. Your daughter is a dear.

There are at least five Masons on this board that I'm aware of, including myself. On behalf of each of us, thank you.

We do these things because it's what we're here to do- try to help others. As man was created an intelligent being, we ought to be an industrious one, and that includes relief for those that need it; from a few bucks for lunch to major medical care and all sorts of things.

I can say without hesitation that I would be proud to call either of you brothers- both of you at various points through board posts and the like, have shown the type of character and thought that would fit well in any lodge.

Thank you tons Charlie. I've been asked before to join a lodge in my home town area. I told him at that point I couldn't because I was moving out of state. That was the Tebala Shrine out of Rockford Illinois. Now I'm in the area of Tripoli Shrine where Gregg is as well. I know I have a busy schedule with where I work and all but maybe some year I'd give it some thought.

I AM proud to call you brother even if not the lodge fraternity, but as a human who cares!!!! God Bless and thank you for what you do for everyone!!!!!

Hey Charlie and all the Mason's here....

Every year we go to a parade in my hometown in Pecatonica, Illinois, it's the Memorial Day Parade and is a big un. Anyway there are five different groups of Tebala Shriners that are in the parade. During the parade when we see the Shriners come by Lilly holds up a sign saying "Thank You". Early years they didn't really take notice until this year the one Shrine float saw her and began talking about her on the p.a. about "This little girl knows what we're about and "Thank You" he told her. Also Bob from the Tebala Thunderbirds saw her and asked me if I had a camera? I nodded yes and the next pass he came around and stopped by the curb and had Lilly step out and I took a pic of them. I don't have a copy of that pic right now but if you get ShrineLines, look back into June and you'll see it.

After the parade we sent the pic to Tebala Shrine in Rockford, they then contacted Shrinlines after wanting to do a blurb about the photo. The secratary had forwarded it on to them.. The secratary had told us via email that the guys were all talking about the family saying thanks and how nice it would be to see the photo, so I sent it in. Then she said that Bob would love to see it, so I sent it to him along with a breif story of our daughter.... Lilly is a Shriners kid, she goes to Shriners Hospital for Children of Chicago and she is a hit everytime she goes there. She has had surgery on her cleft pallette, left hip displasia along with a pharegenyl flap repair done there. They have been very, very helpful in everything they have done for Lilly and us. Trust me, we talk very highly of Shriners Hospitals as well as the Shriners that help out.

The photo below was taken by a friend of ours that was sitting accross the street. In it you can see her tube that she feeds on, It is placed directly into the stomach and is ran by a feeding pump. She is now eating two meals a day by mouth although it's pureed food. Her speech has improved dramatically after her second surgery.

Again to any Shriner or Mason out there, Thank YOU!!!!!!!

:)

Kerry, with your permission, I'd like to share this thread with a friend of mine in Texas who does a very widely-distributed Masonic e-Mail newsletter. I think it'll be very well received.
