Custom Hearse Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Started this a month ago, and finally finished it tonight. A friend of mine who drives OTR likes the color pink, and drives a white Kenworth T series truck wondered what her truck would look like painted pink. The only kit I could find was the AMT/Ertl kit, which is a very messed up and VERY inaccurate kit. Reading the directions was probably the funniest part of the project! I have never seen a microphone cord that could defy gravaty before, but according to the picture, the C.B. installs upside down. And what is a Luberfinder? that's what it is called in the instructions... Anywho, with a little reworking, and a lot of detective work figuring out how the part is really supposed to attach, I have assembled the kit in time for her return and will present it to her for her birthday... Let me know what you think, and thanks for looking.
slusher Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Very Very nice truck. Real thoughtful gift. l bet she will love it....
Custom Hearse Posted October 30, 2013 Author Posted October 30, 2013 Very Very nice truck. Real thoughtful gift. l bet she will love it.... Thank you Carl! I wasn't able to give it to her on her birthday, she was in Georgia scaring the 4 wheelers!
Custom Hearse Posted October 30, 2013 Author Posted October 30, 2013 The OTR Barbie Mobile! Good job, Marshall. Now that's funny!!! I'll have to tell her that one! Thank you for the compliment too! I really appreciate it!
Jim B Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 (edited) Yes, the T600 kit has a lot of issues; mostly because the engine & frame are from a 1970s W900. You did a good job with the kit, and it's perfect for October (Breast Cancer Awareness Month). Think Pink! Hey! You could call it the "Pink Panther". Oh, and a Luberfiner is an oil filter. That style of oil filter system generally wasn't used on trucks in the 1990s (which is what the T600 is supposed to be). Edited October 30, 2013 by Jim B

I was wondering where they originated, and thank you for the compliment too! As for the luberfiner, I was being a smart aleck... The instructions call it a "luberfinder"... Which I guess it's some type of device made to find oil!
Jim B Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Yup! That's what it's for! Now, where did I leave that oil again?
Chuck Most Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Yeah, AMT botched that kit six ways to Sunday, but at least it ain't no Marmobilt. It actually looks so good in pink it's a little bit scary. Yup! That's what it's for! Now, where did I leave that oil again? Better bust out that Luberfinder.
Harry P. Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Let me know what you think.... I think it needs some chrome to offset all that pink. Chrome visor, chrome mirrors, chrome window surrounds and wipers, etc. And I would have gone the opposite on the color... the darker "heavier" color on the frame and bottom part and the lighter color on the upper parts. (you did ask what we think... )
kilrathy10 Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 (edited) Nice work on this one....I've only built 2 of these, lifetime, and they have both given me fits....I built one, about 15 years ago...Hated it.....The frame is too short.....Box stock....Never looked right....Then built one about a year ago...Stretched the frame, but still didn't come the way I wanted.....Even with my increased skill level....I've got one more, and I'm going for broke....Whenever I do decide to build it, though, I just might go with an Italeri frame or something..... Great color combo....It, actually, does look good pink....Great work....She'll dig it... Edited October 30, 2013 by kilrathy10

olsbooks Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Eeons ago I worked at Lonestar Peterbilt in Dallas, TX. I remember they sold a pile of 379's down the road to Mary Kay cosmetics. Pink down to their frames and all if memory serves me right. Drivers got alot of ribbing about them but they were making about double the going rate (or so they claimed). Definately got your attention. Cool. Dare to be different! Hope she enjoys.

(you did ask what we think... ) I thought so too Harry, but she wanted it to be as close to her real truck. She told me didn't want a lot of chrome. I thought about the color being reversed as well, but she likes hot pink more, and I couldn't think of a design that would look good, and still have the max amount of her favorite color. And yes I did ask for your opinions on it, and I really appreciate all the replies! Thank you Harry!!!

The idea of using the Italeri frame is a good one. I thought about stretching the frame as well, but figured it probably wouldn't help. And after reading your post on it, it sounds like I made the right decision!

I knew they painted Cadillacs pink, but Peterbilts? AYE YI YI!!!
Custom Hearse Posted October 31, 2013 Author Posted October 31, 2013 HELLOKITTY would be happy to drive too ROFLOL!!! That is a good one! Thank you for the laugh Todd!!!
olsbooks Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 (edited) That was great Todd! Anyway, here is your jpg to make some decals..... Have fun! They just gotta go on the mud flaps minimum! And while your at it, why not go for the "eyelashes" perhaps out of a cheap black brush. Cant remember who it was, but somebody mentioned strawberry shortcake a few weeks ago.... Is nothing sacred? Is a therapy session needed or is it just our male hormones revolting against the "system"? Me? I will stick my classic gun waving Yosemite Sam "Back Off!" mud flaps. Yuup, bored if you could not tell...... Edited October 15, 2014 by olsbooks
Brinx Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Marshall, nice job overall. I think she'll like it. She just might take the model to the body shop and tell them "Do this to my 1:1 scale ride." I agree with the observation about being a tough/inaccurate kit to build. I did two of them. The first one was quickly converted to an expediter by the little plastic o/o who quickly realized he couldn't make any $$$ because he couldn't hook a trailer to it (and still be able to make turns). The second was built as a straight truck and was sold to the fire deparment where it was converted to a heavy wrecker/rescue and is currently assigned to the FD Special Operations unit. brinx

She loved it! She sad she wish she could take it on the truck with her, but she was afraid it would get destroyed. And I gave a big sigh of relief knowing I wouldn't have to repair it everytime she came home!
olsbooks Posted November 1, 2013 Posted November 1, 2013 Its all good my friend. Just like to attempt to stir the pot a bit in a fun and slightly psychotic way every once in a while... Comes with the job I suppose. Lighten up, live, and be thankful for each day. The alternative really sucks. It is a shame AMT blew this kit so bad based on what I have read here and heard. Thanks for sharing and posting. So what is next on the bench?
