crazyrichard Posted December 25, 2013 Author Posted December 25, 2013 well decided after the last post to sit down and finish the chain gave the chain and poles a brown layer and sprinkeled the chain with some pigment powder , some mild drybrushing on the no parking sign , for me this really made such a difference and it ties in so nice i think with outdoors / daylight pics it will come acroos better on pictures that corner .. hmm finished then decided to shorten the pole of the tyre sign , i just got the idea it was to tall and i was right after shortning it just was so much more balanced with the rest
crazyrichard Posted December 26, 2013 Author Posted December 26, 2013 on the base of the pig pole i made some grass like it grew over the base plate , also added some grass over the edge of the lantern post .. i also want to do more gras along the sides of the wreck took some pics in the garden , colors pop more ... i see the pole is sideways lol i need to straighten it
Dinky Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Rich this is so cool, the colors really come out on the outside pics. Ill come and take a look soon
crazyrichard Posted December 26, 2013 Author Posted December 26, 2013 thnx arno and yes they do , when the sun shines it really pops on pictures , sadly its pretty grey outside and cool just lket me know
crazyrichard Posted December 27, 2013 Author Posted December 27, 2013 a very rought start of a tyre rack / display .. used old sprue and some styrene plate .. kept it a bit rough .... the (half) tyre is from a opel blits kit 1/24 .. painted the rack a base yellow and the tyre matt black , later i will ad dunlop logos just like on the big pole and add a wash (mild) to bring it to life .. i just made a fantasy shape / rack .. a bit bulky but i wanted something to tie in with the bog pole .. like they would have that certain style of advertisement displays and signs ... (made up by me lol) also adds color in the dio .. the tyres are just for a idea .. i will put in some tyres that are more time period correct
crazyrichard Posted December 27, 2013 Author Posted December 27, 2013 first drybrush with oilpaint , now i need to messure the space for logos and make some logos for the rack
crazyrichard Posted December 27, 2013 Author Posted December 27, 2013 made the logos , same as on the big sign , took 4 nice tyres , best quality on scale those soft rubber ones , awsome detailed thread and side ....
Ramfins59 Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Richard, it is just so wonderful to follow along with every new detail that you add to this diorama. While you have put a lot of things into this scene it does not look cluttered with too much detail. Have you thought about adding any light fixtures to the front of the building, such as over the doors or over the gas pump area? Unless this would be a daytime only business, anyone buying gasoline at night would have trouble seeing things. This is just a thought, as I'm not trying to create more work for you. This looks just awesome so far.
Modelbuilder Mark Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 I would love to be able to spend a coulpe days just haning uot with you while you weather these things so I can better understand how you make them come to life...I really enjoy seeing your work, but find myself being quite enveous at the same time....LOL
crazyrichard Posted December 28, 2013 Author Posted December 28, 2013 (edited) thnx guys and richard , yes i still need to make light fixtures , still thinking about the style and .. sometimes i need to waight and all of the sudden i see a part in the partbox or get an idea but they need to be made yes ! and mark , thnx !! actually at this point the weathering .. had become so easy for me .. i keep saying it painters tubes with oilpaint has been the find of 2013 for me .. that stuff is just awsome ... take the rack .. i wanted it to be yellow like the sign and also so i would have a new color incorporated .. so i painted it matt yellow with some enamel paint and a handbrush ...made the tyre on top matt black with enamel paint .. then it looks nice but for me very toy like ... so i just took a tube with dark brown oil paint and drybrushed it .. some cue tips to spread it and get the effect ... and done instant effect ... the rust at this point is also easy .. i just paint it matt with enamel paint kind of a certain brown tone and sprinkle some rust pigment powder on it ... of to get a different effect i use rust color oil paints ... byt in the end mark its just going for it .. i ounce tried to look up some weathering techniques / how to's .. to be hounest thats not for me .. i just try stuff out and see where it takes me .. btw one thing is cool i always try to mimick shade , like everything in real life has got shade when there is depth in a object .. in moddeling i try to mimmick that and enhance it by getting darker colors along raised lines and going lighter towards the open and flat surfaces .. if you look at my garage door above , the flat surface is actually plastic and on top real hardwood .. if you look close you see inside along the wood on the flat surface its darker on the sides then in the middle , this also creates a kind of dirtyer look ...thats just brown oil paint .. that same brown oil paint also makes eveything kind of look the same (wood and plastic) ... in the case of those double doors i just painted it with oil paints and rubbed of again leaving more dark paint in the cracks and along the raised earea's i tried that because i have been a virtual designer for years and had to quit that hobby for modelbuilding .. on a virtual rendering you also use highlights and shading to make stuff look more 3 dimensional .. so when i started weathering and dio's i wondered if that would work .. and it does .. like on my garage i actually put a lot of blak around objects .. you wont notice it right away but its there and i still try out new stuff and learn a lot .. on this dio i also found a few new tricks that i wish i did in te garage thnx again love your work also , always so detailed and clean !! ... lower99 Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Hi neighbour! Wonderful work! The tireracklooks like a real thing!
crazyrichard Posted December 28, 2013 Author Posted December 28, 2013 just started on the first light fixture .. real simple with some old sprue rods , a lego cao and a real led (no sadly not working , something i want to do in the future) kept it simple and rough build wise .. that way it fits betetr in the theme .. would i build a perfect looking thing it would not fit in gave it a matt army green and sprinkled some rust pigment , on these pics it was just srinkled on , so the effect looks dramatic , on the pics below you will see the end effect after brusing it off after brushing of the pigment and placing the lightpole ... nice and dark so it does not attract to much attention and blends in def/ makes the sign more realistic
Tukkerdax Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 nicely done Richard, maybe you can put additional 1 or 2 ( steel ) cables to the top of the roof in a "V" for holding the lamp straight , i think it's quite a heavy one(. just an idea..) but as always... TOP !!
crazyrichard Posted December 28, 2013 Author Posted December 28, 2013 thnx and yes maybe some cables would look cool also started the light fixtures on the garage sign .. that was a hard one 3 versions later this was the best i could come up with.. still looks a bit weird in styrene but i think with paint and weathering they will come out nice the middle one is a fixture that lights the street in front of the door
crazyrichard Posted December 29, 2013 Author Posted December 29, 2013 painted and weathered the new lightfixtures today and when i glued them in place i saw the sun shining outside .. so i went outside to shoot some picstures with no sun complete dio , its hard to take pics because i hold it up above the wooden fence with one hand and shoot pics with a gsm with my other hand one inside , i made 3 struts to the large light for extra support
crazyrichard Posted December 29, 2013 Author Posted December 29, 2013 (edited) made a lightfixture in front of the pumps under the round sign bend some sprue and made struts from styrene , found a sort of dish ... painted it red , ties in with the red on the building there found a nice plastic light glass thingy a bit of pigment powder and mounted it downtoned the rustpigment , the crack i made on purpose same as the broken off piece Edited December 29, 2013 by crazyrichard
crazyrichard Posted December 29, 2013 Author Posted December 29, 2013 well i decided just a hour ago i am calling this one "finished" .. i was sitting at the table with the dio and thought . at this point its just trying to get idea's ..i'm sure in the future i will add small things ..same i do on car builds .... but for me at this point its donei think the real endpics on location will be made in the beginning of the summer but since the weather is soo mild here in holland atm i might do some winter pics ....anyway thnx to everybody for the great replyes and enthousiasm !!!
David G. Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Nicely Done! Everything looks fantastic. David G.
lower99 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 The lamp looks perfect, but i think a Diorama will never been finished!
crazyrichard Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 thnx both .. and well that why i called it finished ... its at a point where its a risk to go to far and put in too much ...
lower99 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Yeah thats right. Overload dioramas arent so pretty
