lanesteele240 Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 This could be one of the worst m/c i have ever attempted. The instructions were worthless. The box had the same burnout pics and one chassis shot taken from 300 ft away I quit 2/3 the way through because it fought harder than a freedom fighter who's village was just burned I have a stack of models and i dont have to put up with it. Here is what i am going to shamefully put on the shelf
cobraman Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 I don't know Gary, except for it sitting too high up front it looks pretty darn good to me. We are all our own worst critics.
ScaleDale Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Ditto. Except for the ride, it looks fine. I've got this on the shelf for a future build. Dale
sflam123 Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 I built this kit (pictures were posted on here some time ago) and it was a real bear kitty. Nothing seemed to fit right and I worked for days (weeks?) to get the stance right. IMO the decals were very poor. I ended up using a set of Slixx decals that I got from somewhere some time ago. Don't be too hard on yourself. I think yours turned out pretty well. Steve
slusher Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 A very nice looking model Gary. We all have had models that was no fun to build...
Pro Wrench Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Sounds like a good candidate for a custom chassis.
PappyD340 Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 I don't know Gary, except for it sitting too high up front it looks pretty darn good to me. We are all our own worst critics. I agree Gary, don't beat yourself up, like Carl said we all run into this from time to time!!
DonW Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 I did notice the ground effects sump pan... But at least it's on the shelf, instead of in bits on the far side of the room!
Old Coyote Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 (edited) You're being too hard on yourself Gary ............ this is a really poor kit to be judging your skills against ............ I think you can finish it if you put your mind to it ............... it's just going to take some modifications to the Polar lights pieces ............ You have a great start and with modifications the Polar Lights funny car stance can be corrected .............. see below Edited November 4, 2013 by Old Coyote
brett Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 The 69/70 mustang seems to be by far the most challenging to get to sit right out of the ones I've built, just set it on the shelf for a while , then one day in the future take it down and alter the stance( ie when you are heaps calmer, its what I do). Apart from the hight (which isnt your fault) your build looks great so far. Stretch the blower belt before use, they tend to pull down on the top pulley or the bottom one up. Is it catching on the supercharger injector hat? looks pretty close in the third pic.
afxmustang Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 I've got three of those along with aftermarket decals and I'm not looking forward to building them. One thing wrong with the kit is that the wheelbase is too long for the Mustang and the chassis needs to be shortened. I think I'll put these kits at the bottom of the pile. Has anyone tried using that body with a Revell or MPC chassis?
brett Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 (edited) Karl, I did sit one on a Revell chassis, body only eg no tin and although the revell frame is too long the stance looks real good. Thing is I think it will cause a lot more issues whichever way you look at it, certainly not an easy swap for the casual or inexperianced builder, You'd have to shorten the frame then get it back together, wire pins would be best here I think. Then change the fuel /oil tanks for period correct and change all the tin work.. Gary, sorry for the thread hi jack. One thing you could try is where the body pivots up put a small bar across the top of the frame rails, it does raise the back a little but also lowers the front to a much better level. lanesteele240 Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 No issues with hi jack. Talking models is what we come here for. Thanks for thr comments if you work for polar lights and you reasd this, look at how tamiya does its instruction sheets. One more sheet of paper would have not costed much more. More shots of the kit on your web site would help. Dont settle for how it was done 20 years ago. No reason you could not add 5-10 more shots of a completed kit on the net
brett Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 They're still better than my current build Gary. Building a re bodied JJ Monza, with the multi piece chassis, theres no instructions ,pics whatsoever on the chassis assembly, on everything else yes but the chassis no. That would surely screw over an inexperianced builder? I've built over a dozen of them so doesnt rally matter to me ,but how did that not get noticed by Revell?
Terminator-Fox Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 I have this kit as well waiting to be built. Kind of disheartening to hear it was a pita to build yours looks good though Gary.
Truck parts Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 (edited) Thanks to everyone for the posts. I'am planning on getting one soon, and now I know what to look for. By the way yours looks very good. Edited November 10, 2013 by Truck parts
