Mike Kucaba Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 Here's one of my rarer ones. I also have one in Yellow.
Mike Kucaba Posted November 5, 2013 Author Posted November 5, 2013 YEPERS!! Just think of this cast in resin?? Gasser, pro-Mod, Pro-Street, Pro- Rust LOL
Erik Smith Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 That's a neat kit, Mike. Does the motor go in the plastic engine block or a separate location? Those door frames look extremely fragile.
Mike Kucaba Posted November 5, 2013 Author Posted November 5, 2013 The electric motor goes in the rear to a little cradle and drives a rear wheel. Those window frames are fragile. I haven't broken one yet though.
Casey Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 YEPERS!! Just think of this cast in resin?? 1/20th scale is pretty much the zombie zone for model cars, so it would really have to be a labor of love for someone to undertake that as a project. Maybe if they designed it to work with the 1/20 MPC Altered T and 'Vette Funny Car chassis.
Guest Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 I would build that in a heartbeat, the Opel GT is my favorite car. Mike, if you want to trade that away, pm me.
Tom Geiger Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Mike, I see lights in the kit and the lamps cut out in the body... do tell. Will they operate up and down as well as work? I have a 1/25 Opel GT that I am placing the lights into the open position. And that's as far as I'm taking it.
Mike Kucaba Posted November 5, 2013 Author Posted November 5, 2013 The way I look at it, it would be a labor of love, however 1/20 isn't that far away from 1/18th and 1/18th is pretty close to 1/16th. Yeah, I know I'm stretching it a bit ( a lot?). For a pro-mod, gasser, etc. the car only has to be a reasonable facsimile I don't know if the lights rotate or not, I really don't like looking at it as I may be tempted to start it ( and finish it) For about what I paid for the kit, You can get a really nice diecast in 1/18th from http://www.modelcarsales.eu/
heinz74 Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 Minichamps sell GT's in all colours..in 1/18 diecast which is very nicely detailed.. diecast is big in Europe...much bigger then building kits
Greg Myers Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 (edited) Monogram Sizzler Dragster, reputed to be in the 1/20th scale range. With a HEMI and a Small block Chevy and lots of induction choices. Edited November 6, 2013 by Greg Myers
Greg Myers Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 (edited) Lindberg did a bunch as well as MPC Edited November 6, 2013 by Greg Myers
sjordan2 Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 I believe this is the 1/25 kit that Tom was referring to... http://www.modelroundup.com/product-p/amt-21162.htm
Casey Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 I believe this is the 1/25 kit that Tom was referring to... There's a review topic for the recently reissued AMT 1/25 scale kit here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=72221&hl=opel For a pro-mod, gasser, etc. the car only has to be a reasonable facsimile For a Pro Mod, yes, but from what I recall and have seen, the Opels used in Gasser classes back in the day looked rather close to stock, with enlarged rear wheel arches: S-W-C really enlarged the wheel arches on this one, but the rest of the body looks pretty close to the factory shape and contours: I'm guessing the most difficult part would be finding one of these 1/20 scale kits, though.
Mike Kucaba Posted November 6, 2013 Author Posted November 6, 2013 "I'm guessing the most difficult part would be finding one of these 1/20 scale kits, though." You got that right! Took me two years to find the 2 I have.
Kennyboy Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 You should build the S-W-C one Mike! That would be TOO cool!
lordairgtar Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Interesting that the kit is molded in black, a color the GT was never offered in. As far as I know, the only black GT I've ever seen was one I owned in the early 70s, and I had it sprayed from it's original light yellow.
Mike Kucaba Posted November 9, 2013 Author Posted November 9, 2013 It's actually Dark Blue maybe a little metallic in it. My bedroom was probably a bad place to take the pics.
