Speedfreak Posted November 21, 2013 Author Posted November 21, 2013 Mike, thanks for the words of encouragement! I'm not quitting, I've come this far, so I'm sticking it out. What I need is a body to practice on and I think I have one that will work. Do you paint outside? 'cause we both live in parts of the country where the weather is less than ideal much of the time for painting outside. We are brothers in paint.
Apriliadan Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 I feel your pain with these rattle can blues, not naming names, sometimes things are just not in our control, spray paint cans the weather, so on, these are things you can take control of at a cost, and then there are times life hands you lemons, make lemon aid. Please take a look at the disaster below
Speedfreak Posted November 21, 2013 Author Posted November 21, 2013 Thanks Dan, I see your point. Actually I think it looks kind of cool, great barn too! I'll forge ahead.
Ramfins59 Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 The bubbling problem with the Testors rattle can paints, especially the One Coat Lacquers, is the reason why I gave all of them away to a friend and only use either Duplicolor or Tamiya paints on my models. Occasionally I'll use Model Master lacquers, but I gave up on the Testors paints. I got the bubbling problem with every color that I tried using.
Speedfreak Posted November 22, 2013 Author Posted November 22, 2013 Hey Rich, I probably won't be usiung any Testors paint any time soon, no matter. The temp high for today is suppossed to be around 38 degrees.
Jantrix Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 I was told by my local parts house owner that Valspar now owned Plasti Kote. The only change I've seen is the nozzle and different graphics on the can. It's still sold under the Plasti Kote name. I've never seen anyone on any forum say anything nice about the Valspar paints though.
vintagerpm Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Bubbles are usually caused by holding your paint can too close. The propellant will get trapped under the paint and as it escapes, will cause the dreaded bubble effect. Completely agree with this. I've done it with Taniya spray lacquer. Back up. Light coats. Take your time. (I'm one of the worst at rushing paint jobs.) Mike
Speedfreak Posted November 24, 2013 Author Posted November 24, 2013 Thanks Mike, I'll try that. All I need to do now is wait for the weather to clear.
Speedfreak Posted November 25, 2013 Author Posted November 25, 2013 Wow, before I even get a chance to try Plastikote it might have changed, hope not.
charlie8575 Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Plasti-Kote is indeed owned by Valspar. The rest of the products not withstanding, the Plasti-Kote line still seems to be essentially the same stuff, just in a new can with a screwy nozzle. I suspect that nozzle is what's causing the lay-down issues. It took me a few passes to get used to that new nozzle, but I haven't had any issues personally and still vastly prefer Plasti-Kote primer to Dupli-Color primer. Now, the new Dupli-Color "Color Match" paints I've used have been awful. I can't get a good paint job out of the can. I'm going to try decanting some into my airbrush and see if that helps the problem. Charlie Larkin
