Hey guys, while you're talking about the wood you want to use, How about a couple of sugestions for staining. Soy sauce and India ink have both been sugested in the model magazines. Test and play around with them. If the color isn't dark enough, dip them again. Just thought I'd pass that along.

Walt.I have also looked at that barn book.I have a coulpe questions also. When you order the plans do you specify what scale you need and then you only get that set of plans or do you get them in all of the scales they offer? What scale are you building in?This part of Ohio has a lot of very old barns still standing that were built over 100 years ago so there is a lot of readily accessible reference buildings available to photograph and measure. No substitute for accurate examples to refer to.

I would think a 1/25th scale barn is going to be a BIG project and would require a lot of materials. If you cecide to use basswood please remember that Hobby Lobby offers a 40% discount coupon on line every week if you just sign up for it.That way you can plan ahead and buy the stuff you need at a reduced price. Not a bad deal.

For staining, I've bought the smallest cans of Minwax brand stains (lighter colors) at Home Depot. Open the can but do not stir the contents. The light stuff at the top is good for staining basswood.

That's how I did this one...

Due to illness I work very slowly pictures are not out of the question, but I am still in the planning stages. Many winters to go.

The book contains " digital ready-to-print plans on scales: 1:5-1:6 -1:8-1:0-1:12-1:16-1:18-1:25-1:32-1:43-1:64-1:87"

this book, and all the books from Sebastian and Ignacio Perez, is quite complete. Book contains full scale drawings for1/25 1/32 1/43 1/64 and 1/87 plans, and more info for other scales in book and on web. Well worth the price of admission. Check out their web site @ MODELJUNKYARD.COM Again thanks to all who have offered suggestions and ideas

Although you've gotten some great suggestions for what to build your structure with, you've only gotten a few responses to your original inquiry. If you have a home center near you, they usually have 1/4 sheets of plywood in various thicknesses. A quarter of an inch would be to thin but something a little thicker would work well. You can always use wooden strips on the edge to finish it off.

Good luck and post your progress.

Hello all, many thanks for all your terrific responses. Health issues and and the impending marriage of my youngest son have slowed me down but I plan to start later this year. Stay tuned
