had anyone gotten to the end of a project that was going to good to end up a nightmare? well, ive been watching everyone build the revel snap petes so I picked one up. figured if anything it would be a good source for parts for future builds seeing the price was right ($15.00). ok, picture this. the kit is just falling together even with all the mods I made to it. extended hood, long frame and setting in the grass. paint work went great, decals went on.........then came the clear coat to seal everything in place. I like to use future or pledge, been using it for years with out a problem unit now.it went on a little to thick so I go to the sink and rinse it off as I had done before but this time when it dried the cab had big white clouds everywhere. so its soaking in brake fluid right now, not giving up , just gonna start again.

It'll be ok....I've been there....If you haven't put the interior in or any chrome pieces, you should be good....Brake fluid gets it done....Just don't leave it in there too long or the paint will go with it....Unless that was your intention....But Future is kinda weird....I've had those white clouds before, and just put some more Future on it and they went away....But, I've also tried doing that and they didn't, so you may have taken the proper course of action....

I'm in the same boat right now. I didn't like how the paint came out on my current project, so I'm soaking the cab in some degreaser to get the paint off as we speak.

Hello John,

Sounds familiar so you have my sympathies.

When I first started to use the rattle cans I had the same problems as you describe. When the paint went on it looked superb but as it started to dry it went cloudy or foggy. I couldn't believe it and wondered what was happening. Was this something that would disappear when it dried? Oh no it stayed!! What a disaster. A search on the internet showed that the fogging was caused by water in the acrylic spray being trapped in the paint as it dried (Too cold). This was apparently caused by too low a temperature and or too much humidity. Now I only spray paint on warm dry days. So no painting for me until Spring. Some people have built a proper spray paint booth to control the environmental conditions to get the best results.

back on track now, soaked it in brake fluid overnight and scrubbed down to bare plastic this morning. shes gonna look good when its done.

For those of you unhappy with how your Future turns out, ammonia or Windex with ammonia will remove the Future only. May save you from having to strip off the paint and decals and starting over...

Here is the paint and decals prior to the oh no incident (steel gray) and post "_oh no" (black). I think the black turned out better.. John

They both look good to me. Sorry about your clear coat problem. that chain around the black Pete looks great like it a lot....Really like the silver and blue one with the long hood. Have been a long hood freak from day one. Need to have you post when it is done. great job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great looking builds! If I may add to the Future discussion:

I have a dedicated brush that's only used for Future. It's an artist brush that's 3/8" wide and soft.

Do not apply with fast strokes...slow and steady is all that's needed...this prevents air bubbles.

I have found Future to be the best clear coat to use.

Afterwards I apply Meguiar's professional show car glaze.
