SMBC Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I did this model for Dave over at Model King a while back, for me it was a tough build. Had to do a lot of surgery to get it to sit right. Its a old cast so maybe that's why? This was the final result,
Harry P. Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Should the hood, trunk, and door lines have been emphasized? Or removed?
PappyD340 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Very NICE Chris, and it looks great, but I'm having the same thought as Harry.
iBorg Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 The funny cars of this era had defined door lines. See: http://red428cat.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/69cougarfunnyhighcountry2.jpg The door lines should be present but barely noticeable.
6bblbird Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Some Funny Cars of that era ( ie: Bruce Larson's '68 Camaro) actually had operational driver's doors. Funny Car bodies of the late '60s were molded directly from passenger cars and the panel lines would be quite evident on the fiberglass body. I agree with Chris. That kit is a real challenge. Mine got the better of me and was never completed. Chris's Cougar looks great. WF
AZ Boy Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Totally agree with everything Walter said. Great job on this Chris. I have one, but haven't tackled it yet. I hope that when I do, it looks as good as yours!
Daddyfink Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Larson's 68 was a one piece body. Most funnies, even the one piece types, have panel lines on them. Some may have gone smooth, but most kept them just to add the the "Stock" aspect of the cars represented. .
SMBC Posted December 4, 2013 Author Posted December 4, 2013 Good point, I gave the panel lines a black wash just to break up the red. I would imagine that on a fibreglass body they would not be that prevelant. Sometimes I get carried away with the wash! As far as the kit goes, it was quite possibly the worst engenieered kit i have built. If i had to do it again I would attempt to squeeze a polar lights chassis under it. To be honest, the new Revell Charger funny car kits are the best I have seen so far. I just hope they keep up that trend, kiinda like Polar Lights did, those kits were hot when they came out.
madhorseman Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Aswum work Chris!! Is that last pic the box art?
Dragracer Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Larson's 68 was a one piece body. Most funnies, even the one piece types, have panel lines on them. Some may have gone smooth, but most kept them just to add the the "Stock" aspect of the cars represented. . The '68 & '70 USA-1 Camaro's were one piece bodies, but did have opening drivers side doors. Bruce wanted to make sure he had a way out if the car caught fire or flipped.
gtx6970 Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Do you have a pic of this door setup? I thought I had a pic showing the '68 car with the drivers door open, but for the life of me I can't find it. Plus I've looked for the past hour online and cant find it either. I did find a few decent pictures showing the door lines with the exterior door handle in place
bytownshaker Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 One of the BeeOnVideo,s CD's has a interview with Bruce and it shows both the restored 68 and the unrestored 70 bodys. This is one of the CD's that cover York US30.
afxmustang Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Rembember guys back then the cars looked like real cars.
