Greg Cullinan Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Today "S" stood for SOLID ICE. We didn't get any snow, it was warm enough that we had freezing rain overnight. By morning everything was solid and tree limbs and power lines were coming down left and right. We lost power around 5:30am and got it back around 5:00pm. About 80% of our county was out, most still is so we're fortunate to have power and heat once again! We just hit 24 hrs without electric. My freezer is thawing and my house is freezing. Lol. Doesn't look good when they are saying expect a few days without power right from the start.
Joe Handley Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 I realized something as I filled the Jeep today, don't matter how fast the pump pumps............. at +1ºf, it ain't fast enough
High octane Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Joe, take a lesson from the NASCAR boys and just dump it in.
Craig Irwin Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Going to -7 tonight, the warmest temp in the 10 day forecast is 29 degrees next Thursday before it drops again. If we get 7 more inches of snow by the end of the month we will set a record for snowfall. 2 days ago we got over 7 inches in less than 24 hours.
JabMan Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 well lets see, it will get to -10 below, but no snow in the forecast at least not tonight. it was -14 below this morning, but that's Minnesota for ya! it will actually get into the 20's this weekend, shorts weather here.
Agent G Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 48 and rainy here today. Naturally I had court so I wore a suit. G

Danno Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Sweaters and jackets. We break out the thermal underwear when it gets down to 40*-45* in the dead of winter. That's usually the second or third Thursday of January. We started Spring this week.
Craig Irwin Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Indiana's 4 seasons, Almost winter Winter Still winter Road construction
Joe Handley Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Joe, take a lesson from the NASCAR boys and just dump it in. I wish I could have Nick!
tubbs Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 yes, I live in that other lake effect area that was mentioned, just southeast of Cleveland. no snow for the past 24 hours, but the temp as dropped, its -3 right now. no clouds though, bright sunshine, hehe....no coffee, coke.
High octane Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Tubbs, I'll NEVER forget driving with my parents and brother to Buffalo for Thanksgiving back in the 50's and getting stuck in Ashtabula, Ohio. We got the last parking space in the hotel, all the roads were closed, and we had to take a train the rest of the way. The train also made many stops along the way to drop off bread in smaller towns. I must have been 8 or 9 years old back then.

Greg Cullinan Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Day four without electricity. Snow tonight.
madhorseman Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Day four without electricity. Snow tonight. Hey Greg, I hope You at least have a warm place to stay, while you get power back? The longest I/we have ever been without power was 3 days, we were at least able to stay at a motel close by. Hang in there Sir.
Greg Cullinan Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 I appreciate it. I have a 8000w generator so fridge,tv,Internet, and two space heaters. It has more juice but trying to keep the gas consumption down. Running about $35 -$45 a day. Basically living in the living room. It was 700,000 without at its height, down to 185,000 so the hotel rooms are scarce and we have pets as well. We have family and had offers but figured we'd grin and bear it
Harry P. Posted February 8, 2014 Author Posted February 8, 2014 And we're getting more snow............ Yes, we are.
High octane Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 But looking on the bright side, we ARE another day closer to spring. Hang in there guys.

Joe Handley Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 You may be a day closer to spring but you are also a day closer to next winter. Sorry. : ) Heck, the way this winter has been, we're one day closer to our next cold snap too............and that's a whole lot closer than spring or next winter!
madhorseman Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 You may be a day closer to spring but you are also a day closer to next winter. Sorry. : ) Aw Ray, way to dampen are hopes!!
Harry P. Posted February 8, 2014 Author Posted February 8, 2014 We were supposed to get a "dusting" today... maybe an inch. It's been snowing most of the afternoon, and it looks like way more than a "dusting." More like 3-4 inches. Not too bad in and of itself... but I am literally running out of places to throw this stuff!
