Masking Tape Residue Problem/Questioin

I use Tamiya masking tapes. Currently working on vehicle with simulated cloth top. I painted the top with MM flat. I put it in the dehydrator for 12 hours to cure. After another 12 hours I masked off the top with Tamiya tape and sprayed the body with Krylon. I put it back in the dehyde for 12 hours. When I started pulling the masking tape off the flat paint on the top I noticed a slight shadow, if you will, from the masking tape. Is this possibly caused by the heat from the dehydrator? Should tape be pulled before putting it in the dehyde? Thoughts? Thanks! May Santa fill your stocking with kits!

yes you need to pull the tape off befor you put it in the dehydrator . the tape will cure and really stick when heated..

If it is "residue", try using Goo Gone. It usually works great, but after heating the glue on the tape, it might not. As was mentioned earlier, do not put tape in the dehydrator.

Since you used Tamiya tape, it may be a discoloration of the paint caused by the tape's glue. I loveTamiya tape, but I never leave it on a model for more than a couple of hours. Once I can handle the model even a little bit, the tape comes off. (Note: I've had it mess up Tamiya clear gloss - don't really know if it will have the same effect on other colors/paints.)

Another tid bit, I would paint the gloss body color first, then mask off and paint the flat. You'll get a better tape seal on the gloss than on the flat.
