FullTimeHobbiest
Hello everyone! Wanted to stop in and start a thread for my little project here. Its a Revell kit from 2003 I got for an insanely low price! It was still in the factory shrink wrap but of course its vented and it appears to have been stored in a very damp climate. Ill have some example pictures below. Some history: This will be my first build in well over 5 years, so it's going to be a slow one guys. I plan to use this kit as a refresher for some various techniques I've had on the brain for a little time now. I picked this kit in particular because when I was about 14 I built one in 2 days, it was gnarly bad. That... And it was CHEAP, I think I paid less than $10 shipped. I've seen a lot of these kits built, so I'm hoping to do something just a little different. ::Plans:: -Exterior: Silver or Ferrari Azzuro California -Interior: 2 Tone Black & Dark Grey -Faux Challange Stredale Rear Insert -Satin Black or Gunmetal Wheels.http://jerryscherrys.freeforums.net/thread/edit/1267 And here she is! (Ruined box because of moisture) What also gave away the moist storage (Besides the stained and collapsed box) is that the chrome pieces lost their luster. All medium gloss grey now. Im waiting on a few more supplies before I really dig into it, but ill keep this thread updated along the way. Thanks for looking! *UPDATE* 12-22-13 Couldn't resist the open kit sitting on my station. Did the trim job on the engine bay surround since these pieces are shared with the Modena hard top kit, as well as trimmed excess plastic and dry mocked everything to test fitment. o-man
I don't think moisture is the issue with chrome pieces. The one I built early this year had the same issue. Maybe Revell did a bad job on chroming a few of them. Looking forward to your build.
jaymcminn
I'm not convinced that the chrome pieces are supposed to be shiny. The center console and wheels should be satin anyway. Often Revell will dullcoat the chrome pieces to approximate satin chrome... could that be the case here? Also, the Azzuro California is the business on a 360 Spyder- here's my Tamiya kit in Tamiya pearl light blue (pretty close to the Azurro) with Crema over Blu Scuro interior. Good luck on your build... you're off to a great start so far!
FullTimeHobbiest
Thanks Oscar and Jason for the input on the chrome stuff, I suppose i cant be too sure on the chrome. And GREAT job on your F360 Spider Jason! One of my favorite Ferrari colors, and that is VERY close.
FullTimeHobbiest
I found the interior I want to replicate! And here is an example of the rear insert i refer to in the OP. Just a little update until the rest of my tools and junk come in. Edited December 25, 2013 by FullTimeHobbiest
DreamChaser
I have also seen this car in person with a red coloured interior, quite stunning. Edited December 26, 2013 by DreamChaser

FullTimeHobbiest
Work is going slow... I'm waiting on a set of fine detail brushes I ordered to arrive, and apparently they got mailed via Burro-Post. But, i painted the throttle bodies and intake plenums. And I attached the bracing/intake manifold to the drive-line. Thanks for looking, stay tuned.
FullTimeHobbiest
Got some more work done. After Oscar suggested the test fit I decided to go back and tackle the fitment issue and move forward on this project a little. Well, it was warped pretty bad. After almost an hour of sanding It still wouldn't fit. So I had to cut a relief hole. :-/ In other news though, LOOK WHAT FINALLY ARRIVED!! Not bad for $4.39 So of course, that meant I could do this. And while that was drying, I started the last components to be hand painted. Thanks for looking, stay tuned!
FullTimeHobbiest
Alright guys, been a while since i've updated this build, but here is everything you've been missing. I finished up the engine details and applied decals. Finished up the front suspension/breaks. I did apply the Ferrari centercap decals, but I forgot decals do not stick to dullcoat. I may just paint the centers yellow. :-/ One of the more tragic pieces in this kit are the exhaust tips. I drilled them out and painted them to look more like the real car's. FullTimeHobbiest
I test fit the interior in preparation for paint and assembly. I clipped and reposition the little shifter switch to more replicate the real deal. This kit is a bit skimpy on the details. Test fit the engine chassis assembly. FullTimeHobbiest
Last night was spent prepping the body and applying primer. Then I spent the afternoon today doing paint work. I'm not sure if this kits decals are particularly crappy or if this set have just aged badly, but the Engine Cover side sections fell apart coming off of the paper. So I just masked and painted them gunmetal. That's all I have for now. Thanks for looking and stay tuned!
