W-409 Posted March 16, 2014 Author Posted March 16, 2014 Thanks for the tip, Jason! I will try that for sure, it sounds like a great idea. When I drill the exhaust ports, I can build the flanges from thinner styrene and then they of course look better than if I made them from too thick material. Thanks! I'll probably start building them tomorrow if I have time, so I'll try to post an update soon, too.
Skypower Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Looks great Niko going to be very nice when done.
W-409 Posted March 21, 2014 Author Posted March 21, 2014 Thanks Bob! Your build inspire me, as you've said that you're doing things that you haven't done before and I have the same feeling with this one. I started making the Headers. I built the flanges from sheet styrene and then drilled holes on the cylinder heads, too, as Jason suggested. It definitely helps and now I have the first two pipes mocked up. I have to bend the next ones, too. There's some minor adjustments to do that I noticed from the picture before I can continue, but I'll hope to have another update soon.
W-409 Posted March 22, 2014 Author Posted March 22, 2014 Thanks Tyrone! I got the headers done today. The collectors are still missing, but I have to figure out how to build them before I can start the actual building process. The headers were a lot easier to build than I thought, and probably I'll be making them from plastic on my next builds, too. If anyone has good tips how to make collectors, I'd appreciate the help a lot.
John Pol Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 use shrink tubbing or aluninium tubbing for your collector
Dragfreak Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 I have used very thin wall aluminum tubing that I bent each side in between each header tube and produced acceptable results but a easier more realistic way I'd like to know as well.
samdiego Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 I've encountered a huge problem with the decal sheet. The decal printer didn't print a white underlay for the smallest gold lettering. It completely vanishes over the red doors. RC2 is sending two sheets to me although we both doubt that doubling up will cure the issue. They appeared to be unaware of the error and may or may not print corrected sheets. This isn't a problem with the white car but I'll be checking the aftermarket for my red one. Considering that the Grump stuff was the reason that I finally threw down for this bit of a pile after resisting for how many years, it's fairly disappointing.
booboo60 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 (edited) Bro, I don't know if you know this, But grumpy only ran the car with the fender well headers twice, when he got too California at Pamona a cpl guys Ribbed him over the look of the headers that he left and went straight too Hooker Headers shop and had a new pair installed to go out and Under!! I just read about it "really" I am getting ready to do a Vega, and after the Nova headers, he didn't want to do the same thing to the Nova,,lol Just a FYI,,WITH THAT SAID,,Yours looks killer! Love the bends,,unreal work,,great job Edited April 14, 2014 by booboo60
GoatGuy Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Excellent work as always Niko. Keep up the good work.
W-409 Posted March 11, 2015 Author Posted March 11, 2015 Looks like I've missed a couple of comments in here. Well, a late Thank You for the kind words & thanks to Steve for bumping this thread up. I figured out how to make my collectors while making similar headers on my '55 Chevy and now I will use the same method on this build. More on that technique can be found in this thread: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=90198&p=1222108 Unfortunately I have made no more progress with this Chevy Nova. A Couple of other projects, 1:1 Drag Racing and building a full scale '60 Impala have basically stopped my progress with this (And other builds as well) for now. But I will keep you guys posted when I get something done with this one.
