o-man Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 What did you use to paint the scripts? Great work on this and the other Cuda you finished.
1972coronet Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 I did not paint the white parts. The sheen was perfect to replicate the vinyl look so why waste paint or primer. My sentiment exactly . The natural satin-esque sheen of the plastic is perfect . I've left the white interior parts alone on the two or three 1971 Nash Bridges HemiCuda convertibles I've built (one of which was EV2 Tor-Red ) . I feel the same way about black-coloured plastic ; the sheen is perfect for K-Members (think : Monogram 1971 Satellite and 1971 HemiCuda custom) and other suspension parts .
RandyB. Posted December 29, 2013 Author Posted December 29, 2013 (edited) What did you use to paint the scripts? Great work on this and the other Cuda you finished. Thanks....just silver paint in the bottle and a very fine paint brush. Edited December 29, 2013 by RandyB.
RandyB. Posted December 29, 2013 Author Posted December 29, 2013 (edited) How did you do the steering wheel? Just like the 'Cuda scripts on the door panels I used Testors silver paint in the bottle and a very fine paint brush. There is a very fine grove that you paint in on the steering wheel. You will need to hold your breath and whatever you do....don't sneeze! Try avoiding too much coffee one half hour before painting will help....you certainly don't want the shakes for a job like this! Randy I considered doing the same thing to my steering wheel but thought there is no way I have a hand steady enough to do it. I agree the decals don't show up that well but I am glad Revell provided them. Great job on that interior.
jaydar Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Thanks everyone. Jeff.....I did not paint the white parts. The sheen was perfect to replicate the vinyl look so why waste paint or primer. I understand this statement as far as it goes but are you saying the seat fronts and backs did not tequire any sanding or putty? Joe.
RandyB. Posted December 30, 2013 Author Posted December 30, 2013 (edited) I understand this statement as far as it goes but are you saying the seat fronts and backs did not require any sanding or putty? Joe. Yes I did sand the glue seams on the front seats. Back seats were okay. Edited December 30, 2013 by RandyB.
RandyB. Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 But you did NOT paint? Hard to believe. I cant see any scratches. Impressive sanding skills. Thanks...320 grit sandpaper followed by 1500 grit paper with water does the trick.
RandyB. Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 Got some more work done on the Cuda build. Finished up the engine except for making a alternator bracket which I still have to do. My Mopar tech and friend Dave (Fury3) had noted to me a couple of things that needed to be corrected on my previous Limelight 'Cuda build on the engine if I wanted it to be factory correct. Distributor needed to be painted tan instead of black, silver carbs instead of gold and the oil filter decal was applied incorrectly .....trivial little things but I like things to be correct. So on this build I made sure they were done this time.
hgbben Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 The motor looks great, just like the rest of the biuld
bogger44 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 The interior and engine look superb Randy, keep it going! Having Dave's help from the sidelines is never a bad thing either. I feel a little guilty as I haven't conversed with him in some time.
drodg Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Looking great. I think they did a great job on that Hemi engine. Btw Randy what paint are you using for the shaker?
jaydar Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Thanks...320 grit sandpaper followed by 1500 grit paper with water does the trick. Randy: Thank you for sharing the technique. Joe.
RandyB. Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 Btw Randy what paint are you using for the shaker? Thanks guys! David...I used Testors silver spray paint followed by a good coat of Testors "wet look clear". I did this on my other '70 Cuda build as well. Comes out looking nice.
freakshow12 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 I agree with the above. I mold in stuff all the time with superglue and sanding
RandyB. Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 (edited) Got a late start today on foiling so all I got done was the trim on all four wheel openings which is probably the hardest to do next to the rear cove trim around the back of the car. The rest I will finish tomorrow. Edited January 4, 2014 by RandyB.
RandyB. Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 (edited) I really like this colour combo. Thought I would share a couple of preview pics. Edited January 4, 2014 by RandyB.
Brett Barrow Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 Ok, it's settled... That's how I'm going to paint mine. Love that color with the white interior! Looks great!
RandyB. Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 (edited) Thanks Brett. Good luck with yours! Well I finished up the BMF today and was pleased at the way it came out. Used a little polish on the body to perk it up. This build is moving right along. Hope my white lettering tire decals come soon. Edited January 4, 2014 by RandyB.
