abelaxe Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Thanks to watching Dr Cranky videos on Youtube I have been inspired to get back into car model building. I have to admit I feeling over whelmed with the countless amount of options and ways to build. When I was kid I didnt spend anytime putting models together. Im seeing now that that is NOT how to build a model..... I was assembling NOT building. Right now Im going to be doing mostly box stock builds to build my confidence and get confidence in building models. I am interested in doing some lowering and tubbing. Im curious in checking out different approaches to building. Please feel free to give me advice on how to get started. Im also looking for advice on what tools to start with. Ive included a couple pics. These are my first 2 models in over 30 years. I do have a real 68 Camaro in my garage. Thanks Todd
slusher Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Welcome Todd looking forward to seeing your builds. I also enjoy Dr Cranky videos...
abelaxe Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 Thanks MCM....I think I may have goofed already. I started gluing in my seats....I should have left them on the tree to paint them first....Oh well its my first build in about 30+ years.
PappyD340 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 WELCOME to the forum Todd, the good Doctor is what inspired me to get back into modeling also, lots of valuable info on this site so just jump in with both feet, if you have any questions just post them in the question forum and someone will more than likely have an answer, glad to have ya!!

slammedi'am Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Welcome to the Forums! Cranky is da man!
abelaxe Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 Thank you all for the kind words. Happy New Year to everyone. I just got back from Harbor Freight picked up some cheap tweezers and small clamps.
Greg Cullinan Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 It's all about fun. Build em however you want. Sometimes I glue the whole interior together and paint it one color and call it done. I understand the desire to build awesome models,I have it, though I figure with experience they will continue to improve. So I just build. Welcome and nice Camaro.

Dragfreak Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) Yes I raced at the drag strip for Medford Cruise. I did a best of a 10.73 @ 126mph. How long have you been building models? I don't know if you'll recognize it, but my dad races his 72 Vega mostly friday nights and has raced at the Medford cruise drags. I also used to race this from '06 to '12, you probably didn't see me out there. I've been building for about 4 years now. Edited January 2, 2014 by Dragfreak

Dragfreak Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 (edited) I have seen that Vega out there. It is fast! He races regularly Friday nights, if he loses a round he'll go run nitrous passes in test and tune. The track isnt prepped very good Friday nights so it wont hold much power, the biggest hit he can give it is a 150 on the bottle to run 9.26's consistently. Edited January 2, 2014 by Dragfreak

It has Canfield aluminum heads, Comp cams .728 solid roller cam. Dart intake, Holley 950 HP carb. It has a turbo 400 with reverse manual valve body and a Hughes 4500 stall converter. THe rear is a 9" Ford with a spool and 3.50 gear. I love drag racing and going to car shows and cruises. Dragfreak Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Very cool....Is there a model building club in Medford? Not that I know of, there's one in Grants Pass called the midnight prowlers but that's quite a drive.
abelaxe Posted January 10, 2014 Author Posted January 10, 2014 It would be fun to go to a model show...There was one in Portland last weekend.
DirtModeler Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 I've been to one in Portland, though just as an onlooker. There were some really nice models there! I'd like to finish a few models and go to a model show.. but the Dirt Modeler business pretty much takes all my free time to maintain, I rarely have any time for modeling my own stuff... Hopefully this year i'll be able to after i get done with my current todo list.
