~Mark~ Posted January 11, 2014 Author Posted January 11, 2014 Work was crazy this week, so I didn't get much done (until tonight) I started out by masking and spraying the window trim. Once that was done I was happy I spent so much time on prep, because everything else just about fell together. I moved over to the front suspension and what they call an engine. Again this went smooth, so I rubbed down the under body to give it a little weathering, and moved on to the interior. Once again fit finish and prep made assembly quick fast and easy. I asked my boss and his GTI doesn't have the piping, so that saved a tone of time and frustration. The interior I think looks awesome, to bad this isn't a convertible. Now I was on a roll, so I decided that I should attach the glass. This was the first and only problem with the build. The four locator pins were not going to line up. I cut them out of the way, and the glass literally fell into place. so I added the tail lights and covers. The directions say to do the tail lights first, but it's easier to add the glass first. Now it was time to add the rear view mirror. This was the only major error on the whole build. I used CA, and made a mess of it. I wish I would have left the mirror off. Now I have a glue smear on the glass. Not cool, but not to visible.
~Mark~ Posted January 11, 2014 Author Posted January 11, 2014 So since I was so far along, I made a cup of coffee and put it all together. The mirrors aintenna and wing went on with no fuss. I have to say that this is the best fitting model I've ever done. The kit almost literally fell together, and even though some of the mold pins were in strange spots it wasn't anything major. This was a joy to build. Here's what's in the garage next. It's Revell's 2 IN 1 Nomad kit. It's going to be turquoise and silver with turquoise and white interior. Lowered, but stock rims and tires.
Jordan 191 Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Wow you really handled the details nicely. Great trim!
~Mark~ Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 Thanks everyone. I had a good time working on this one. Much more relaxing than the ships. It gives me a lot more freedom and the parts aren't so dang small.
fantacmet Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I personally despise VW's but this makes me almost want to go and get one. That looks GREAT.
Stretch75 Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Over the last 6 years I have owned 12 of them and my favorite was my mk5 6 speed 2.0T GLI I built...a few mods and I was getting 270hp and 325tq...the car was wicked fun but as with any VW not fun to pay when they break even working at a VW dealership as I do lol
~Mark~ Posted January 27, 2014 Author Posted January 27, 2014 Thanks for the kind words. This was the best kit I've ever worked with.
~Mark~ Posted January 28, 2014 Author Posted January 28, 2014 You guys are awesome. I'm a butcher, the kit was that good.
