TRaymo Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Well been out of the hobby for about 15 years, recently got the bug. Found this forum and wow! So much talent and skill! Back when I was younger I was all about building them fast. Never knew of BMF and using liquid glue, I always used the tube glue and painted what I wanted chrome silver. So I started with just a car to warm up! Got a few kits here and there. Most of these are still unstarted got so many ideas! Anyway heres my stash. Hope it shows up not to sure if im doin this right
Bennyg Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Nice stash. One tip, learn to airbrush. Just figured it out last week. Really rewarding to see paint turn out. Ben
purepmd Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Travis, Welcome back to the hobby, and welcome to the forum. Very good choices as to your what to build. Enjoy. Mark.
TRaymo Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 Yeah Ben ive been wanting to airbrush just don't know where to start. So many different kinds and can be pricy. I had one when I was a kid didn't know what I was doing put just straight paint in it didn't know you had to thin it out. Any advice would be appreciated. And thanks Mark seen your Freightliner, im going to tear mine back apart after seeing yours wow nice work on the cab seams.
olsbooks Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Looks great. Just my opinion....save the Freightliner Cabover to last. Getting the cab right is a real challenge. Airbrush? Go dirt cheap and get the basic skills down. Use a water based paint on paper to get the flow/pattern. When you can shoot water soluable paint on notebook paper and it not run, then you are getting the hang of it. Plus it is easy to clean up. As skills improve then work your way up. Then try cheap enamel based on junk plastic toys and the like. There is always ebay to get rid of cheap ones and help fund the next step up. Good luck, welcome to the forum and above all else, have fun. Most everybody here has been very helpful and encouraging. .
TRaymo Posted January 8, 2014 Author Posted January 8, 2014 Yeah I've been looking at cheap ones. Hobby lobby has a gun and 2 paint bottles for $24. What do you use to thin out say testors acrylics? Or enamels? Different thinner or can you use the same.
tbill Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 welcome Travis. my advice to you as a recently back to building guy myself, of the kit's you have pictured there, start with the KW snap kit. it's got good details to get you started, and mate it with the flat bed trailer. trailer is a decent kit as far as parts fit, has some detail, and isn't overly complicated. two good kits to get your 'feet wet' as it were. I built those two exact kits to 'get back in the game' and glad I did, enough detail to keep you interested, but not too hard to make you want to give up. welcome back to the addiction
trick my mixer Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 Nice little stash to start with. Welcome!!

I've been spraying at 20 psi with a cheap single action airbrush. So far so good with flat, demi gloss and gloss paints. using tamiya acrylic thinner as well. I like the tamiya stuff so far. Will be using decanted tamiya paint as well. Trying it on Sunday. Ben
