Exotic is anything I cannot afford...so a VW Jetta is an exotic car LOL. Seriously, there are American exotics as well. Shelby cars are exotic. Ford GTs would be exotic. Certain Corvettes can be exotic. Would a Tesla be an exotic?

Heck if that's the case a Yugo is an exotic for me!!!!!

IMHO, I don't think that Corvettes, Vipers, Shelby Mustangs, and Camaros are priced high enough to fall into the exotic category.

Can I borrow your wallet the next time I go car shopping?

Beyond price and performance (which I do think are factors), I think of limited production.

The Lamborghini Countach is one of the cars most people imagine when someone says exotic car, only a handful over 2000 were built over its 16 year production run. A modern Corvette certainly meets the expensive and fast requirements but even in a down economy Chevrolet churns out 10-15,000 Corvettes annually, and in particularly good years the numbers run as high as 40,000 which makes them a bit less exotic. Since these things are rarely black and white something like the Corvette ZR-1 with improved performance, greatly increased price and limited availability (generally only around 1000 / yr) might qualify as an exotic.

Exotic Car Digest describes “Exotic Car” as: “Any car that the factory built to be unique, fast or purposely built to stand out from the roads full of the ordinary”. Kind of a broad definition, but as anything car related, terms can be wildly debated amongst the cognoscenti. Look at what the term muscle car brings to mind.

I think for a car to be considered erotic it has to be something that when you say hey man I saw a ...... at the gas station yesterday everyone gets excited about. So for a oil baron in dubai, something like a 1 off.. or for a little hick town in Georgia, a camaro zl1 or a viper. To me its more of a look, then a price tag... I mean you can buy a 70, 000 f150 from saleen or roush racing ir what have you but its still just an f150.....
